I looked at the pics of Sparky's interior on your blog. He's awesome. Love your theme and photos.

Dumb question I know but... steel wool and... ?? Chrome polish? Just water? Something special? Weather is turning again.. time to put on a DVD series and go into chrome polishing nirvana mode. More importantly, Sparky looks great! Just the steel wool. Nothing else... You will be very surprised. Start with a small area about 3 inchs in diameter to see how it's going to go. Mine were completely brown with rust. You wouldn't have thought there was any chrome left. Wish I had pics of those to show you but they were lost in a computer crash.

Thank you Pathfinder and Mobiletec. Appreciate the lessons as always. Pathfinder is right, we're a bit off topic here -- never meant to detract from Sparky. But now that I think about Sparky -- that would be hard to do any way -- too great looking!

Thanks for all the awesome advice! I'll give the steel wool a try. Most of the rust is on the underside. One of them looks like it was painted. Wish me luck!

I had one moon left on my 61. When I went to shine it up, the chrome finish flaked off! I used the method mobil suggests. Thats not to say it won't work, just saying that if it starts looking dull and grey, no amount of polishing will help. Maybe mine were an inferior grade of chrome? I know they were painted over the chrome to start with and when I first started I thought I would end up with a great moon. NOT. Good luck though and hope it works.

My moons aren't really moons, they are cones, cone shaped in the middle instead of rounded. Anyone else have those? I think they are beyond shining but I might paint them with some chrome paint to get by until something else comes along.
Please excuse the hijacking of your thread, 61. Hope Sparky understands. He Sparked a good conversation.

Mine are sort of moons. They have a little ridge/raised circle in the middle, but not a cone. They're okay - not wonderful, but they'll do if I can shine them up. If not, the search is on!

If they don't work and I can't find any other ones that will work, would it be out of the question to paint them?

That's what I have. I tried the steel wool. They cleaned up but don't look good. I'm going to try chrome or silver paint after I try beating the dents out with a rubber mallet. image by susieqilvu, on Flickr

I think we have the same style there SusieQ' I ain't frettin it though. I rode mine for the past 2 years. The dents give'em the fish eye look.. Coool Beans. You know after reading abit and following up on some of these post, we can pickup a pair for about 40 bucks delivered. I am still going to spay paint mine, but I just might consider picking a new pair next time I get a order together..

I had looked those. And I just placed a $400 order with them so I'm thinking my hubs can wait. And I'm not sure they will fit. I have a 4 1/2 " 4 bolt pattern, doesn't look like the 4 bolt they have. And their hubs say they fit their 6 bolt pattern. So if someone else with wheels like mine tries these, let me know if they fit. OT, but I ordered my Fantasitc Vent from them and sadly they do not make the white top for it anymore. Still looks better than the bubble dome on the modern ones.
