I have been doing some research and talking to my local wood store people about the finish on my trailer interior. This will be my next step after I finish the exterior framing this weekend. I will be either sanding or wood stripping down the existing birch, so that the finish is off, and then those panels need to look the same or close to the same as the new panels I just bought which will be on some of the walls.
It is up in the air at this point as to whether I will shellac the interior. With the extreme -44 winters that we get, and then the very hot summers +100 temps we get here on the Canadian prairies, I am concerned about the shellac fogging and other issues. So I am also looking at polyurethane with a very light stain under it as an option.
I also have the issue that the trailer has dark mahogany doors and cabinets, so I don't want an amber wall next to it or it will end up very orangey in there.
So here are a couple of questions..
When you finish a trailer in shellac, is the final finish "shiny"? Or is it more semi-gloss?
Has anyone on here finished a trailer with plain untinted shellac or plain polyurethane over birch? Can you show me a photo?
Has anyone on here finished a trailer with polyurethane and stain? Can you can show me a photo?
Has anyone put a layer of polyurathane over top of shellac?
Ok thanks for any help or photos you can share.

Thank you thats very helpful. I will test it like that. I have some chunks of birch with the old finish that I can test on too. I am going to need to put the mahogany door along side the stain samples and see what co-ordinates. Out of what you have there I could see the M-Natural or the bamboo oil looking the best with my trailer. I may use the spar urethane too, they mentioned it at the store. I do think that choosing a stain would help to tie the old birch and new together.

Shellac is shiny. Poly can be gloss, semi or matte. Your choice.
I have used clear shellac but it doesn't add any color. You have to add tint or stain under it.

I know you didn't ask, but I like that bamboo nccamper used. And I like the "weathered oak" in the samples. So warm, not too dark. Just lovely.
