I cant seem to figure out how this flange is connected- holds toilet and connects to the black tank under the floor. Its rusted pretty good. Does it screw on? Thanks IMG_2294 by kathy, on Flickr

Bump...
Ok...got the floor cut out around the flange and the tank is free- but the flange is so rusted. I would like to save the tank- as it is in good shape with no leaks. Does the flange screw into the tank?

That is a possibility. But it will be tough to tell before it's apart. Talk about a catch-22. I have a 1970 model 16SC. The flange was connected to the tank by a 3" pipe nipple, about 6" long. It was all ABS plastic so didn't have the rust to contend with. However it was quite nearly impossible to tell the construction when it was together under the floor. Obviously the flange is iron and, as old as it is, probably the connection to the tank is also. It may take a LOT of patience and a LOT of penetrating oil to make it come loose. Fact is it may never come apart. If your tank is fiberglass, be careful of how much twisting you put to it trying to get apart. It won't be easy to fix the tank if it's damaged. It is possible to find replacements if it gets that far.
