I bought these really cool 12V lights for under my cabinet. The guage wire we are using on the trailer is larger. My husband is concerned about connecting it to the small wires on the lights, is this a problem? Sorry about asking such a simple question, I know it's probably been addressed, but this is going to put the kabash on his electrical work, and we can't afford to lose the time. He's thinking about buying a dist. box. I should also note that there is going to be an on/off switch in between. That's another long story. 2018-01-14_09-54-56 by Corvett crzy, on Flickr Light/Trailer wires (yes, he still needs to run the second trailer wire) 2018-01-14_09-54-07 by Corvett crzy, on Flickr Light Spec.s 2018-01-14_09-56-15 by Corvett crzy, on Flickr Any help is appreciated.

No problem connecting different wire gauge sizes. This is done all the time in homes. Just use a standard wire nut of the appropriate size. Since this is used in a camper and exposed to the elements, a gel filled water resistant wire nut would be a good idea. That is what I plan to use throughout my build wherever there isn't a separate terminal block to attach multiple wires to a common point.

One more note. It is good, and required practice in home building, to use a junction box to house connected wires.

If the trailer wiring is a larger gauge than the light fixtures, not a problem.
Problems arise when someone has smaller gauge wiring in a trailer and try to run something that pulls more amps than the wire can handle. For instance, say you run 14 gauge wire to a converter that pulls 20 amps. 14 gauge wire can only supply 15 amps without overheating. So, if the converter puts too much load on the 14ga wire, there could be problems. Make sense?
And all connections should be done in a J box. I use regular wing nuts.
