After all the worry and prep there is some paint flying. So far so good. Yesterday afternoon was the epoxy primer. Put on 4 coats and happy with the results on that phase. This afternoon did some detail masking and misc other prep. Tomorrow I do the body color and next day the detail stripe. Making that as typical as I can figure for the early 60 TravelEze. My first time at real spraying and it turns out to be kinda fun. Let's see how it goes after color. When done, if I can figure out how to post multiple pics (tried in past with out success), I'll put up some. Used a nice hvlp gun and a 5 hp / 25 gal comp. which seemed perfect for this gun. Havent totaled cost but paint and additives a little over 500. Plus the gun and attachments at about 200 plus cleaner ($20/ quart!) and lots of expensive tape, paper and plastic. And time. After all prep and ready to go still looks like a good chunk of 3 days for painting, masking details and clean up.

Excellent!
The prep always seems to take 20 times longer than the actual painting.
Post photos when you're finished.

Todays color went great! Did primer under carport and kind of fought posts but today pulled trailer out with my little tractor and had more room to move. And a neighbor came over to shift ladders etc. job must have a lot to do with the gun cause I'm new at this but its going well. Color detail tomorrow..... assuming i can tape over new paint in morning. Gotta call the paint store guys.

I didn't want to risk my paint peeling, so I waited a week to tape off and spray the accent color. Also, after cleaning your gun, it helps to store the parts in acetone or another solvent to keep it from clogging.

Dan thanks for the tips. Well before I saw your post I drove to town this am and asked the guys at the auto paint shop when I could tape after just painting yesterday. They said go for it, and so I did. Said with that single stage paint and with good prep no problem and it worked. Took a few hours to re mask everything and much less time to do 4 coats color on the detail areas. After a couple hour break I stripped tape and It went good. One thing I did was use the 3m tape that is made for auto work. It made very nice edge lines and comes off super clean. And it's DONE... ( the paint, not the whole project) Soon as I can I'll try and get some pics up. Not a perfect pro job but there was a lot of satisfaction in doing It myself. I would urge others to try it. And a big thanks to nc. I looked at your post many times. A shame your pics are gone. Thanks again.

I have been repairing threads for a month after the photobucket debacle. I'm sorry the photos were missing. I'll try to get to that one today. I look forward to your photos.

Thanks 57 T, got the carport last winter but offhand can't remember the company name. I'm in north CA and they are made down in Fresno. Was about $1000 including install ( which they did in about an hour). I remember there are a lot of companies out there all about the same prices. It's a pretty good compromise between a tarp and a garage.
