As I narrow down the search and method for a paint job, I was talking to a very helpful lady in the paint department of the builders supply place over in the next little town yesterday and she posed a good question. "Well are you fixing it up, or are you restoring it? There is a difference you know." So thinking of the uncounted hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars, I realized, though not 100 percent true to original (will have a new fridge that actually works, for example) I'm ending up way closer to restored than just "fixed up". I would think the answer to that question would have bearing on much of what we do to these things.

When I think of restored I think of what mobiltec does as in putting everything back to its as new as bought condition. When I think of fixing up. I think of some Craigslist pink foo foo trailer. We need a happy medium. I think in cars they call it retro rods. I'm doing mine as safe and somewhat original but very useable. So as far as paint goes it's going to be rustoleum all the way

I painted my K5 Blazer with Rustoleum.... I acutally carry a couple of emergency cans with me in the tool box. Just to keep the rust down. They don't call it a Blazer for nothing and I have to widen all the Jeep trails with my truck so they come in handy.

What, you don't like Arizona pinstripes?
The muscle car crowd calls builds like this resto mod. Not full custom but not completely original, just improving the usability.

I don't mind the pin striping at all. Kind of a badge of honor in a lot of ways. But when it's done by a boulder or rock, then metal is bare and will rust. My poor old Blazer has enough problems without rusting away on top of it all.
