I've cleaned all my exterior trim, doors etc to a steel wool matt finish, and they look good . Besides the window frames I'm considering not painting the door and one of the access doors and refer vents that are still pretty straight. They are kind of old looking but I like it. If not painted would a rattle can spray of lacquer or a wax job help them last better? Or is this a bad idea in the long run? Thanks.

Any mill finish aluminum we usually leave bare. It's easy to touch up with steel wool and always looks fresh. I've never tried a coating but am interested in what others have to say...

Lacquer may not hold up well to sun and rain. Wax seems like a better way to go as long as the old paint job isn't too thin.

The best protection is to park it inside. Most people can't do that though. Proper maintenance is the way to go just like Vikx says.

Wash and wax every couple of months seems to work here on salty Cape Cod. I like Meguiars products.
This Spring I pressure washed our house and realized that I was tasting salt in the backspray coming off the shingles. At first I was afraid salt water had intruded into our well, then realized it was from all of the salt in the air from storms. Vehicles don't last long here because of that and road salt in Winter.

Thanks all. Think I'll use a little wax here and there and park under the carport I put up to keep it from the intense summer sun we get here in the Sierra foothills.
