People with way too much money to burn. I met an old man with a giant, high-end motor home. In a nice way I asked how much they depreciate. He said, "Son, I'm old and I'm rich. It can depreciate to zero and I wouldn't care. I'll still be rich and old." That's who buys a $138K camper.

I know some miserable rich people and some very happy poor people. I'm supposed to be in the middle but with 2 sons in college I feel more on the lower end. Lol

Sorry to disagree with some of you but no, it's not just folks with $$ to burn. It's people who are perhaps more fortunate than the average American, and are able to pay more for quality. They're the ones who look at what's offered by the various RV mfrs, including Airstream, and have a real problem paying 50k-100K for peeling laminate, leaky framing, improper wiring and on and on in a new unit. And like most people today, they don't have the skills, time, or location to do a frame off restoration.
I've seen the new Bowlus, talked with the mfr. maybe too many times and have done countless hours of research. Here's where WE landed (your mileage may vary): It's wildly expensive (relative to it's competition) at $140K and amazingly well built. It's great for people who can live in a small space. It's probably not the best for big people or a family. It's very functional; you can tow it with a normal vehicle and take it places a bigger trailer won't go. And, it's designed to be easy to work on when the time comes.
Like every single thing in this world it's a question of trade-offs. We're not wealthy, and we did have to think long and hard about the cost. After much analysis, we decided that it's the best fit for us. It's the only trailer we intend to ever buy. And we can't wait to start using it!

Sorry I just still don't see $140k there. Just because everyone else is selling crap for huge profits doesn't justify the price. Unfortunately that's the mindset of most consumers these days. And the real problem lies in those consumers not doing their homework coupled with easy credit. Just like gasoline. We consumers could bring the oil companies to their knees if we all stuck together and refused to pay their price. But that will never happen. There is no competition either so we are stuck with what ever they shove down our throats.
This trailer will never be worth any more than half of what they are selling for. But people will pay it because everything else being built is such crap. And only the well to do will be able to afford it.
So what are you going to tow it with? I think a Bentley or a Rolls Royce is in order here. For value comparison the tow vehicle should cost at least twice what the trailer costs.

If I had all the money in the world I wouldn't buy a $140K trailer. Sorry if I offend anyone, but I just think that it would be silly and somewhat pretentious. The enjoyment of doing the rebuild or restoration is just not there. Think of all the terrific things that amount of money could do (like sending a kid to college whose family can't afford it, or a million other worthy things.) Just my way of thinking as someone who will never have that kind of dough.

My son tell Me that money cant buy happiness, but, it can help You buy the things that You enjoy. I guess I am happy that I am not a rich man, I feel that I would loose My humility. That one thing is very important in my life.

buyers of that trailer don't want to camp. They want to show it off. Probably tow it with a Porsche as shown above. "Look what I got!!"

It cracks me up that us Americans love to complain about the high cost of quality products as much as we complain about the poor quality of cheap products.
I hope the manufacturer of this new Bowlus trailer is very successful. I also hope that if successful, they remain a private company and don't sell out and cheapen the product to grab profits.
According to the companies' website their manufacturing facility is in Oxnard California. The cost of doing business there is probably as high as it gets in the U.S. They are employing designers, engineers and craftsmen plus incorporating the latest and best technologies into a very well made product. I can easily see why they cost what they do. I am sure if the manufacturer could charge less they would. Who knows, they may not survive for long selling them at the price levels they do. While I can't justify spending 130k on one of these, I am glad there are those that can.
