Hi everyone, I've been lurking this site for awhile now and decided to join in. My husband and I just purchased our first trailer on Sunday. It's a '69 Ideal Idler. We havent done anything to it yet, but sit in it and ponder. We looked at some doozies, I'll tell ya! Decided we wanted to buy something that was usable now so we could spend some time working out what we like and don't like, before diving in on a resto-mod. We're very excited! Almost everything works, except the refrigerator and a few of the marker lights. Here we go!! Looking forward to learning alot here Cheers, Wendy

Congrats and welcome from another set of Washingtonians! You are doing the exact right thing. Nothing. The sitting and pondering and dreaming you do now will pay off in the long run. You will know exactly what you want and will have figured how you want to go about it. Keep a list or talk about things until they are burned into your memory. Or, better yet, keep a list. Then when you are ready to start, remember one thing... Don't throw ANYTHING away until you have installed its replacement. This goes even (especially) for anything that you will need measurements for. Good luck. And, by the way, we need pictures!

Welcome aboard. Would love to see some pictures of our new addition. Pay attention to what Hamlet says, its good advice. Remember, we are all here to help. I am from the East side of the Cascades so another Washingtonian.

Thanks for the warm welcome I'll post some pics soon. Made our first purchase today. Marker lights and reflector lights. We're compiling a list of things we need to do, and in what order we want to do them. We're really having a tough time deciding whether we want to do a restoration or resto-mod. I've had some difficulty finding any info on Ideal. We would like to keep as much original as we can. I haven't even been able to find some of the simplest things, such as a porch light. Also, I'm not even sure if some of the parts are original. The trailer was only owned by 2 people. It was passed down through the family. If anyone has any info about Ideal Industries, please let me know Wendy

Welcome to the biggest scavenger hunt of your life. Some of the parts may take up to a couple of years to find while others fall in your lap when you least expect it. That's part of the fun. A vintage trailer project is a box full of smaller projects that rolls on wheels from place to place. I like doing mine as I use them too. Keeps me motivated out of need. I got to work on a 54 Ideal shown below. They are one of the nicer built trailers in my opinion. You Tube Link... www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeUV8zZS5rQ

Very cool! Keep pondering and dreaming, and in the meantime, maybe even camping. You could absolutely do a complete remodel making everything as modern as you want and still make it look almost as though it just came off the factory floor. We added a porta-potty/shower room (which we adore), a closet and a two-drawer cabinet and unless you knew it wasn't always that way, you couldn't tell. It looks completely original.

Hey look at the profile photo of the curbside of this trailer and tell me what three trailers look like they were all sewn together to make this one.... Perhaps even 4 trailer traits from other manufacturers... Sort of "Frankentrailer" LOL.. I really like the shape so don't get me wrong but I see at least 3 other trailers in there.

Hmmmmm...with that 'tip' off the back, its like the Cardinals had, the window towards the back looks alot like the front window of my Shasta. The front profile is purty close to the shape of older Fans.

The trunk was a pretty popular item on many trailers of that era.

Interesting. I'm not familiar with enough of them to know. We have gotten all of the appliances running except the fridge and the oven. We'll probably use the fridge as an ice box for awhile, then just replace it. We can get the pilot light to go, but the oven (manifold?) wont fire. Havent been able to find any documentation on that particular model, but am assuming they havent changed too much over the years. My hubby is in charge of the mechanical areas and exterior, but I will be helping out. I get the interior decor, which I'm really excited about! I've been sewing all my life, so I can redo the cushions, curtains, etc. I'll be repacking the wheel bearings this weekend, while he works on the brakes

Thank you so much! I did not realize it was made by Coleman.
