Metzendorf 1974?

Where am I supposed to keep the spare tire for the Metzendorf when we travel? Sorry if that's a stupid question. It has no rear bumper. It does have a drop down floor so I guess I could put it there while towing but that just seems dumb. Is there any way to mount it to the front where the propane tanks would normally ride? What does everyone else do?

Our FAN had the "spare" tucked under the rear of the camper, held up with a rusty chain and rusty bolts. (Just like GMC /Chevy does...you usually cannot lower them because of all of the corrosion, or worse yet, you can lower it but then can't release it from the lowering mechanism. Then you have a 70 lb. thing swinging below your truck.)
When I finally got around to painting the frame, I came face to face with what turned out to be the original 1965 spare tire and rim. Had to cut the chain to remove the spare. Previous owner had recently replaced the axle and wheels so the original didn't fit the new hubs.
We ended up buying a new wheel and tire that we kept in the bed of the tow vehicle while travelling. Also bought a new wheel and tire as spare for the tow vehicle and kept it in the truck bed, too. Bulky, but we did have peace of mind.

We also keep the spare in the tow vehicle. Which is fine with our full size pick-up but in a small SUV it is a lot of lost space.

I normally use a smaller "toy" or temporary spare. They stow easily and will still get you to the next town. Did I mention easier to mount in those tight vintage trailer wheel wells??

We use a donut spare (small one), we keep it under the front dinette seat. Curb side.

Have you guys ever found a donut in the 13x4x4.5 size? It was hard enough finding normal rims in the size lol. I don't even know if they make a donut in it.

Mel, you don't go with a 13" toy spare. Toys are smaller and even a 17" may work. Take the trailer with when you're shopping...
