I have been pricing water tanks this weekend. The cheapest I can find in Canada is close to $200.00 Canadian dollars. I have also been looking at some in the USA. They are around $100 US dollars. I need two tanks. One for fresh and one for grey. Then I found this one on Amazon. They have two sizes 10 gallon and 16 gallon at $33.00 US. The US border is an hour away and I occasionally have things shipped there. This could be one of those times when I can save some serious money, by driving to the boarder. 2 tanks for $70. I have read the reviews on them and people seem surprisingly satisfied. No complaints. So I am just checking here to see if there is anything obvious I am missing. I will be taking measurements tomorrow. Here is a link to the amazon page too. www.amazon.com/dp/B007MSDYFQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=ZRQFGT6FP0KY&coliid=I2CVXEI2R39D4Q

Those look like some pretty nice tanks, especially for the price. I might be looking into getting one of those for My camper.

The one negative that was mentioned a couple of times with the larger tanks is that when filling the owner noticed that the sides bulged a little. They did not say this caused a problem and it was with one of the larger tanks that would be holding more water. So this tank is not as thick as a $200 tank, and thats why its cheaper. However if it has held water properly for all the people who have bought it, then I am thinking it's ok. The only totally negative review came from a guy who said it was damaged during shipping but he said the company took care of it and sent a new one. I guess I am feeling that my trailer is such a money pit that if there is a place I can save a little as long as the tanks work well, then I will. I am hoping someone will chime in who has actually bought them. If not, I guess I may be the least case.

If the sides would bulge on a full tank, it could have plywood on both sides to keep it from bulging. Over a long period of time, I dont know if the bulging would affect the bulk heads or not but with plywood holding it in it should never be a problem.

If you are considering the 10 gallon, 7 gallons isn't too far away and way easier to plumb if you dont mind shleping tanks.

I agree with Dan. 10 gallons is "nothing" for a fresh water tank and will last only a day or so for grey...
My little ABS tanks last for 2/3 days depending on use. The size is 8"x 16" x 18" (9gal) or 24" (12gal).

I'm actually looking at 16 for fresh and 10 for grey. We only boondock for one night at a time so I am not looking for big capacity. Just the ability to hold some water until we are at a serviced site. We did look at the "two jugs under the sink option" but since we already have a black water tank to deal with, we have decided to have a small grey and a slightly larger water bottle tank as it will hand pump into the toilet and black tank. We will be dumping a tank anyway, so we may as well have both. In our big jayco trailer we have the oddity of a 90 gallon fresh water tank, which is a feature they added for families. It was a great idea but our grey tank is only 30 gallons so we've had to buy a portable tank to drain it off when we have several days without draining.

LOL. Not exactly balanced tanks are they? No.. (If you mean my jayco trailer), some does go down the black tank for the toilet, but the black tank is 30 gallons and takes forever to fill. (My husband likes the campground bathrooms, and this is an ongoing joke with us, that the only place I will use the bathroom is in my own trailer, and thats the only place he won't use it). But the grey water situation was hilarious when we were newbies with that trailer, and had filled the water up, and then could not figure out why it was backing up into our bathtub. (I probably used 30 gallons in one day!). Now we are much more careful, and we drain off the excess with the portable tank. It is nice to have 90 gallons through, in order to boondocks somewhere for a while. I think even with putting a sixteen gallon water tank on the Golden Falcon, we will likely have to go and refill the tank if we stay somewhere a few days. It will be a good test.. If I get these tanks, I will let everyone know how they work for me. SaveSave

O.K. so scrap all of the above thoughts. I found out from my research today that one of the biggest RV tank manufacturers in the world is an hour from where I live. I can buy all of the tanks wholesale by going direct to the factory. The tanks they make are a little thicker than the $35.00 ones, and pretty much the same price wholesale if I pick them up. This works out GREAT for me. It was funny because I was tracing a black water tank in the USA to see where it was made, and my own zip code came up. After a few clicks I found the factory, just around the corner so to speak...

I've read that the grey tank is very helpful in rinsing the black tank. IIRC, you dump the black tank, close the outer valve, open the grey tank valve so that the grey water flows up into the black tank drain and rinses out what didn't make it out of the black tank, then open the outer valve to drain the grey water... Haven't had to dump any tanks yet myself.

Haven't had to dump any tanks yet myself. We do it that way on our big trailer. But with 90 gallons of grey water it's a huge advantage ringing out the pipes after the black tank. Not sure if my tiny little grey tank will help much, but here is hoping! I may add some chemicals to it before we dump it to help sanitize the dump hose.
