Back in 2014 on a trip up north I took photos of the old campers I saw in yards, fields, etc. This picture shows one of two that were in the woods and can only be seen during the winter. I've wondered about them since but my husband couldn't be convinced to check them out, worried about shotguns, etc. Well, last summer it looked like the property was for sale, or at least "some" land accessed by the field road that leads back there, so yesterday I finally convinced him it was ok to trespass, for sale signs and all............. Camper find 2014 by Corvett crzy, on Flickr What we found were two campers. 1 is a Franklin, I have no idea it's age and of course I didn't have the sense to snap a picture. It has the bunk in the front (you know the style that looks like a pick up camper). Is there a name for that body style? It has a bathroom but can't see inside as the curtains are drawn. Like this: (same color also, but there were two vents by the bathroom area) Franklin by Corvett crzy, on Flickr The other one is a Monitor. It looks like this body style. It was unlocked (I know, I just opened it up a crack and took a peek, my husband almost had a heart attack) and full of stuff. But I did see a BEAUTIFUL teal Princess stove all shiny. It also had those very large "cake" style lights on the back. Body style like this: Monitor1 by Corvett crzy, on Flickr Both had the long looking Bargman handle similar to this. bargman by Corvett crzy, on Flickr I did a little sleuthing about the property but have so far come up empty. Trying to decide how much effort to put into it. We really like the body style of the Franklin as it would sleep our family a little easier, but I don't think I could give up the Corvette either. These campers have been calling to me, I MUST resist, if I can. Well, maybe I'll at least try to find out the story, looks like they haven't been used in many years. I know it's bits and pieces of info. but does anyone want to make a guess at a year of manuf. range they might be?

The Franklin is a "dome" and needs to join our Cutter's Club... LOL.
Without photos of the actual trailers, it's hard to guess age. Things like clearance light placement and number can really make a difference. Turquoise stoves came out as early as 63, at least in my trailers. Most were 65/66.
The Bargman locks I've seen as late as 68.
Anyone else have ideas?

Back in the old days people selling property would pay me $50 each to come get them out and off the property... Back when I was in My tens {not teens}, this area was more like a farming community. Old cars everywhere. People would give them to us. Here we would come, all the kids in the neighbor hood pushing an old clunker. we would mess with it. Get a gallon of gasoline, rob a battery from something, unless it had a hand crank, then We would mess and tinker until it was fired up and running. LOL One guy even come buy and bought His car back for ten dollars it sounded so good. LOL

I've been sleuthing. It took some time but I finally found the property info., made especially hard since the lots these trailers sit upon haven't even been given addresses. But having the owners name and being able to contact them = another story. I did find the daughter of one gentleman, he was deceased, she may not have even known he owned the property. But I think the trailers are actually on the neighboring lot and since we can no longer get phone numbers on the internet unless we're willing to pay for them, snail mail it is. Sent a letter out today. They've been sitting a mighty long time. The monitor curtains have rotted half way away and it's filled with junk. The Franklin looks to be in a little better condition from the outside, but who knows. Picker bushes surround the area and who knows how far sunk in their axels (wish I would have looked closer) are. So I'm hoping mobiltec that history will repeat itself and maybe they will look at this as someone being willing to clean up their lot. I'm afraid much more than free and I won't be able to convince my husband to give it a whirl. The only chance I have is because he's smitten with the "dome" style trailers and it's bigger than the vet. He's not looking forward to camping in the 12 footer with two kids. Here's hoping!! OH and one other thing, does anyone know if the Monitor and Franklin have plywood or framed walls?

Update!!! Snail mail paid off!! Got a call today. Turns out the Monitor is a 1964, the owner isn't sure of the Franklin, she thinks it might be a 62. Also said that they were made in Indiana by the Amish? I inquired what she thought they were worth and she said she had to see what condition they were in. She's planning on a trip up to get her things, then she's going to contact me so we can look at them!! I'll be getting pictures next time!!

Hmm, I DO remember seeing a picture of a travel trailer being pulled by an Amish horse and buggy.

Going to take a look at these this weekend, I'm so curious I can't stand it. Owner said she was going to go clean her stuff out this past weekend but when she called to set up a time she didn't say what condition she found them in - she hadn't been to the property in a long time. Whatcha think? Good news or bad? I tried to hint that I wasn't interested in a high priced trailer, hhhmmm the waiting is goin to kill me.

She did say she wants to sell the property and might need to get rid of the trailers to sell it. I'm hoping I might the kind of deal mobiltec was talking about.

Looking at the pics. of the trailers, it appears to be a sizable chunk of ground, even if it did not have a shop, it looks as though there`d be plenty of room to get a structure fit in there somewheres. LOL

mrmarty51 It's a decent enough size lot for a pole barn 170ft or so roadside, short side of the rectangle. The property taxes are about $90 a year, gives you an idea of the value. Land is pretty plentiful in that area.

Land is pretty plentiful in that area. That is a decent sized piece of property. It looks like it is wooded too, probably some good to eat deer in there too. LOL I have been thinking more about trying to get out of this valley. The problem here is the price of property is high. Where I live went from the flood zone into the river channel with the new flood map from Our famous and notorious FEMA. The price of My value of My property dropped about 50%. There would not be enough money from the seal of it for another place outside of the city and still be able to put up a dwelling. I made a pass through Arkansas a while back. Property there is cheap, I just would rather live in the river channel though instead of in tornado alley. LOL

CorvetteCRZy, How cool is this. I love the chase. This is half the fun. Now you got me running alongside. Crossing fingers, toes, angles, and eyes for this one to come through. Cheers, Rod
