That is strange indeed. Can not really tell but it looks as if the gas line had been soldered on, maybe something soldered into the end of it as a plug. I know noting about propane fridges but I would think that there should be a gas valve with a pilot position in it. People with more wisdom than I on these matters might post in what they think is going on. If all the components are there,If the fridge can be pulled out and moved to a safe location, then tested to see if it will light and cool.

Thanks. I am thinking to take the photos down to our local RV place. As of last year there was a guy who had worked there for 40 years. If he is still there, he may know what's going on. Maybe, the "lighting box mechanism" is supposed to be in that hole and it has been removed. Since the refrigerator works so brilliantly on 110, I am going to keep it as it is very retro. I can always toss a bag of ice in the lower crisper while underway or without shore power I guess. I also found this thread on the forum that showed the lighting instructions from an old astro refrigerator. I am linking it here, so I will remember them in case I need them. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/1820/astral-refrigerator-works

Good plan on getting the fridge to someone that really knows them. There is no such thing as second guessing when it comes to propane or gas.

I think Marty is correct. The old gas line appears to be plugged. Leave it for now, you may need it later. If not plugged you'll need a 3/8 flare plug for the line and nut.

Thank You! The refrigerator is a LEC Bogner Regis fridge, made in England in the 1950's. They made big refrigerators, but also small ones for medical use. The guys who started the Glendale Trailer Company in Canada were two brothers from England. It appears they imported these refrigerators the first year they made trailers and then switched to Dometic. When we bought the trailer we plugged in the fridge and it made ice. BUT... it was missing the shelves and the ice chest door. I searched high and low (even England) for months and could not find another LEC fridge or parts of this size. Now here is a crazy true story... I woke up one day with a very strong thought to search my local kijiji (craigslist in Canada) for old fridges. I thought maybe I could cut down some old shelves from a different vintage fridge. Low and behold, there was the exact fridge, except it was sitting on 1960's skinny legs in a guys garage. The EXACT fridge. $100 later I had my shelves, freezer door, and a perfectly working back up fridge should my compressor ever fail. I did a happy dance.. lol! Here is a brochure I was able to find. A guy from England sent it to me. So I have a cute ad, but I have never seen another trailer with this fridge. SaveSave

How nice to be able to get another unit and the parts for Your fridge. Checking the prices in the L list, that would be about $38.00in today American currency. LOL That is figuring a buck fifty for a pound. LOL
