I wanted to use the original tail lights in my restore but one of the lenses was missing and the socket wiring was in pretty bad shape. However, the bases and sockets themselves were in excellent shape, what to do? I ordered new lenses from VTS. I then went to an auto parts house and purchased new socket innards. It took some modification to what I purchased but I was able to salvage the original lights (sans lenses). Complete new retro lights were very expensive but I was able to salvage both of these for around 40 bucks. Ready to install.

Nice! I love it when people save old parts from the trash bin, it's nice to see things from way back when we still made things in this country (just like the whole trailer).

I've had the opportunity to salvage a few pairs of these ole babies over the last couple years, and am glad to see someone else that wants to hold onto the originality of them. These are the originals on my Airflyte, they lit up the first time I tried to power them after 35 years in the woods! (I just hope they still will work by the time I get done screwing around pretending that I know what I am doing!) P.S. Those replacement lenses look great! I have seen them listed fro sale but have not seen any that were not on the sales-pitch photos. I'm glad to see they look as nice as they do...be sure to put some photos up when you have these put together and working.

Thanks folks for the nice response. I am kind of anal about reusing what I can and saving the rest for ? Actually I am searching for a pancake type LED light that I can install inside these lenses to make them "feel" and look original but have the brightness of the LED stuff. From the outside you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. So far not having much luck but I am convinced it can be done and since I have an electrical background this is kind of an exciting challenge. I am hoping to get Chucks Waggin to the paint shop in a couple of weeks then I will be trimming it out. You can rest assured I will post pic's. It has been a 2 year relationship and October is our anniversary. I just got the original wheels back from being cleaned and powder coated, pictures to follow.

I'm also planning to do a conversion like you're talking about. I will be using the original No.99 lights with the innards from a modern set of tail lights. I've found a set at WalMart that I think will work - they are square light fixtures, but the LEDs are in a round configuration and I really think I can make it work.

Replacement ANYTHING for these trailers is super expensive and I always try to rebuild rather than replace when it comes to things like this. BUT...... My lights are not Barman 99s. They look almost exactly like them but the lenses are not interchangeable. The lenses are the only bad thing about my tail lights and they stopped selling the lenses... Mine are the 110 150 Reflectolites and they are no longer made. They are on 6 7/8 diameter backing plates. So what do I do other than buy new Bargmans at $50 each? www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Reflect_O_Lite_110_150_p/vts-529.htm

Mobiltec, somehow I would think there is someone out there on this forum that has a couple of backing plates for the original Bargemans! Even if it is just the backing plate, I would think that someone with your expertise could rebuild them. I know when I was rebuilding mine I had considered taking a piece of aluminum and forming a backing plate and fitting it with new sockets. But, as it turned out I was able to salvage mine and make them work.I think I read that you are close to Ross and with his metal expertise, maybe come up with something? Just sayin

LOL Bill he told me to use paint can lids which might work with Bargman size but not 110 150 Reflectolights. Just can not get lenses for them so now I must go with Bargman 99s or make some backing plates to fit the lenses I have which are new. I'll probably do that and will make a video of course. It's the cheapest way out for me at this point. I just don't want to spend too much on this particular trailer. It's a going to be a hunting beater or a Burning Man trailer. Nothing vintage about it but the age. That's the one I did the Metal Routing video on.
