Hello,
I just bought an Hvlp central pneumatic paint gun from Harbor Freight. I got the one for automotive paint but I am now thinking I got the wrong one as I am using oil based paint in my trailer. I plan to return it so please advise which one I should get. Thank you so much.

I bought the purple one. I'm now thinking about just rattle canning it. By the time you buy a $50 gallon of enamel, you might as well have bought 12 spray cans... Advantage, piecemeal painting and easy cleanup. Disadvantage, not great quality

I once had to paint a bunch of snow plows Omaha Orange. The paint that I had to use was an industrial paint and I believe it was an oil base paint. I mixed it with enamel reducer and squirted it out of the HVLP painting gun. I used to use a tin coffee can with the corrugations around the can. I would use the corrugations for mixing marks. If I remember correctly, I was mixing a little over half the can with the paint and then next to the top ring with reducer. It come to about a 60% paint and a 40% reducer. It takes some experimenting to get the mixing and spray down right. Now days, for what a gallon of paint costs and everything needed to mix it with and make it come out right, well, let Me say, I just do not have that kind of money to practice painting with. Let us try this. HOTRODPRIMERhelp ! ! ! !

is the gun u purchased a gravity fed hvlp... the purple one? it should work fine if you thin/reduce the paint to the right consistency. if its the gun i'm think of it comes with either a 1.4 or 1.5 mm tip. this gun is really designed to spray automotive paints. if you are using oil based home paint, you should still be able to use the gun but it will need extra thinning.

I am going to paint my trailer with a water base paint and a brush. I have done it before it looks good and no taping required. Paint right over the ugly aluminum it 60 seconds it looks good as new. Sorry but I refuse to spend a month polishing aluminum or removing old paint I am not trying to wine a beauty contest. I can paint the outside in 1 days work. It looks excellent from 10 feet away.
