Hi Friends,
I have the problem that if I mount the wheel on the bottom of the jack post, I can't get it off because my truck isn't high enough. I need one more inch. That's what is sticking out the bottom when it's at its highest point. I cut it, or I drive up on 2 x 6's which is really impractical.
It's nice getting the wheel on there because setting the coupler is much easier than if the trailer is just sitting on the jack post. And there have been times when I wish I could spin the trailer in a spot which the wheeled jack post allows.
Cheers,
Rod

Hello Shasta owners, I'm looking for an Atwood model 450-66 tongue jack, 1000 lb, for our 1969 Shasta Compact. The "nut" in which the screw turns to raise or lower the tongue is stripped. I replaced the Atwood jack with a newer jack, but would like to go back to the original. (The part we actually need is the inner shaft that has the "nut" incorporated into it. The inner shaft is the jack piece that goes up and down when you turn the crank...) thank you, Shastapod

Your best bet is to find a used original in good condition.

Thanks vikx! are you familiar with any vintage trailer salvage yards in the US that might have parts?

Do an internet search for parts. There's a few salvage yards around the country. Also try trailertrasher1@gmail.com He's in Calif.

I’m replacing the Hadco hand crank tongue jack with a 12 volt power jack. It also has a wheel. It’s up for grabs if anyone is interested. You would have to pay shipping and packing from Las Vegas Nevada Roger

Seems to me a pneumatic tire would work so much better than those nasty old casters... I agree on a pneumatic caster with 1 piece of advice: Do not buy them at Harbor Freight. Made that mistake. In 1 day, the 2 piece rim bent and the tube popped. Rated at 300 lbs and failed with a tongue weight of 100. I repurposed a wheel from a scaffold. it slides in the tube, rolls easy, and it has a wheel lock. FWIW, I repaired my stripped out Hadco jack with parts from McMaster Carr and some help from my local machine shop. Should last another 60 years.
