Husband says front jack to our 1968 Shasta Compact is kaput. He would like to replace it with one with a wheel on the bottom. Problem is finding one with a small enough circumference to fit the hitch. Would appreciate any help in locating one to fit. We're just getting started on getting it spiffed up. Floor and frame are solid, plumbing, propane, electric checked. This will not be a total original redo, since some things were done by the po that can't be easily reversed, but we're preserving what is still original, with our newbie skills.

I'm in the exact same predicament with a 62 airflyte. I was told a 1000lb Fulton jack (side crank) with a 1 7/8 tube... But I haven't found one yet.

Make sure that you will have enough road clearance if you have a caster jack on all the time. I prefer a removable caster that I put on when I want and remove when towing. I have seen casters force the coupler off the ball going over a hump like a driveway entrance. Not trying to be bossy just making suggestions.

THAT I HAD NOT thought of. I will make sure that the one I get is removeable. Thanks for the other suggestion. I checked at TS a while back, but will check when I'm out that way, maybe this weekend.

Seems to me a pneumatic tire would work so much better than those nasty old casters...

Anything is better than those casters unless you are on smooth concrete.

Funny, as I just bought a jack 'foot' for my '69 Shasta Loflyte. I went to vintagetrailersupply.com , and they had the Diameter that I needed. They might even have the caster as well. It's a great site for the 'hard to find' shasta/vintage trailer stuff you won't find on Amazon, and even Ebay....hope this helps!
NOTE: ALSO TRY Etrailer.com ----another excellent site, but not as cool for the vintage stuff...GOOD LUCK!

Anyone have any information on rebuilding a 1962 Shasta jack - Mine works fine, just that it will not fully retract and I can't crank it up fully?

Jacks don't normally retract fully. There will be about 6 to 8 inches still below. The wheel should be removed for travel.

**Not advice, just a confession**
I had one jack that just was too low when retracted so I cut 4" off with a sawsall and used a 6x6 wood block under it when unhooking the camper.
