What is the best way to seal and protect the bottom of my walls after they are repaired?
The original way was obviously poorly thought out. There is nothing left to the bottom sill plate of the wall. The wall extends below the floor, thus leaving leaving the wall exposed on 3 sides: the face on the outside, bottom edge and face that is under the camper. the face under the camper was covered with an L shaped flashing the was bent to cover the bottom edge of the sill and protect the face of the wall under the camper. the bottom edge flashing was covered by the bottom edge molding which also extends around to the exposed face. the edge of the molding extends up the skin maybe a 1/4" at best. the bottom edge molding is screwed from below. No putty tape was used before anywhere along the bottom.
There are 2 layers of molding protecting the bottom edge. I believe water travels down the exterior skin and slips behind the minimal over lap of the bottom edge molding. the water then can pool there and travel through the screw holes that extend through both pieces of metal trim that were designed to protect the wood.
Would you replace everything as before at described above but with better sealants and putty tape or is there a better way?
