I spray most things BUT in defense of a roller job my uncle worked in building maintenance and he bought his son a 46 chevy that needed painted so he sanded it down mask it off and proceeded to paint it with a roller when he finished even up close it looked like it had been sprayed. The moral of this is if you know what you are doing it will look good how ever it is painted, but if you don't even a spray job with the finest equipment will look awful. Knowledge and experience is what makes or breaks a paint job.

The $50 auto paint job can look amazing...Thin your paint, use a fine foam roller and take your time...Considering for the rusted out roof on my 07 Tacoma.

I spray everything. I've seen some pretty good foam roller jobs, but most thin the heck out of the pain and put on many coats. The electric sprayer rates even lower than the roller, in my book.

Yes, if you want a good job that can be done without a huge mess, roll on with good foam rollers works well. Thin with mineral spirits. You dont spend time masking off due to overspray. But, you do however spend a lot of time rolling the entire trailer. Like somebody mentioned, whatever you are comfortable with what tools you have access to. I rolled mine and very happy with the results. I was in a heated garage so took my time and turned out great. I have never sprayed before and do not have the proper tools to do it. But, want to learn someday.
If you are painting white, it hides everything! Mine has some hail dents in it and they seem to disappear with an all white surface. Mother nature loves throwing rocks from the sky!!

Little foam rollers and soy based tractor paint worked for me. Not showroom quality, just fresh and clean...without worry regarding scratching the new "paint job" when exploring in the boonies. Cheap & easy! By the way, 3 years and the paint is still sticking to the stainless steel screws. I would not recommend red paint, it fades with sun exposure.

I am planning on rolling mine in about a week. What brand of foam roller have you used for those who have rolled theirs? I've heard they get soggy and can fall apart and just wanted to see if anyone here experienced that.

Exterior house paint? Seriously??? Gary, you must be joshing with us... Wife an I painted the whole trailer inside and out with semi gloss exterior house paint. We used a roller and brush. It needed 2 coats of white paint to cover the up the green paint. I hand painted around the windows. I am not wasting my time trying to make old aluminum windows shine like new so I painted them too. We are not trying to wind a beauty contest we just want it to look nice. It looks very good from a distance. LOL. Actually it looks good from 5 feet away. If you get up close and do a Sherlock Holmes inspection you can see it was hand painted with a roller and brush. The trailer went from frame to finished trailer in 2 months. We worked on painting for 2 days the morning of the 3rd day paint was dry we loaded up and drove 4 hours and went camping. I started out with this. Then this. Then after is was painted. Camping.

Just wait till you try to remove house paint from a trailer. It has to be sanded off. It's worst than slathering silicone calking all around your windows and J Rail. It's flat, and it looks like crap. Why not just cover your trailer with shag carpet? At least it would be unique. Or maybe knit a sweater for it?

Time to bring back an old thread. I have decided to go with the foam roller, and able to find some oil based paint. I have spent quite a few hours removing goop, stripping the layers of paint, and wet sanding the skin. I will finish going over the skin with denatured alcohol, and give it one more cleaning before I start laying the primer. Will be sure to post up some pictures through the process.
Also after spending way too much time cleaning the roof, I have decided to replace it with a new "one-piece" roof that I was able to source locally to remove a few of the roof seams and hopefully prevent future leaks. I found it at a local semi-trailer repair shop, and will be leaving it bare aluminum for now.
