so some guys I work with have been reseaching a company that sells plast-dip to paint cars with. this is the same stuff you can get to coat the handles of tools and stuff, it is a rubber coating. it is applied through a sprayer like a wagner paint sprayer (electric) like you would paint a house with. the concept looks interesting, it resist chips and dents since it is rubber, the company sells it for about $50.00 a gallon and a car takes about 3 gallons. there are several youtube videos of people plast-dipping their cars. here is the websight,,, thoughts??? www.dipyourcar.com/pages.php?pageid=48

Ugh. I can't imagine repairing one that's been "dipped"!

Think of the rust eating away under that stuff.

I dont know, according to the website and the videos, it will last about3 years on a car before needing a new top coat, and to remove it you just cut a corner and it will peel off nice and clean, (at least thats the plan), personally I dont want something I have to repaint in 3 years.

Okay guys, Newbie here. What about using plasti-dip as a temporary sealant on the J- rail or even the outside of the ceiling vent just to get through the rainy season? Apply with spray can. Concerns? Thanks Rod

If you actually "dip" your rig, no more worries about lightening strikes in the camp ground?

Are they more susceptible than modern trailers? No. Same chance as getting struck in your home too. Unless you are the highest point parked next to a lake and a tree! Then you have better odds of getting hit.

An old trailer dipped in that stuff would look like an oversized gumdrop. Strange colors for a vehicle.

Thanks Rod Temporary sealants rarely work and make repairs 3 times harder. I would not goop your trailer. Get a good tarp instead.

Okay, I am a tarp convert. What about, just for kicks, using it on a wheel? I have been playing around with colors, even though it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo far away. I thought, what about just spraying the rims with a yellow, for example plastidip? The rim would need to be cleaned of course, but I thought for 5 bucks, it might be something just to try to get a visual. I get easily distracted and this is probably a distraction from more important work. Currently trying to stay focused on getting the windows ship shape and operational. cheers Rod

The younger set on the Audi forum I frequent use plastidip on their wheels all the time. Orange, purple, lime green. When they get tired of it, they peel it off and try another color. They dip grills and the Audi rings and other bits, too.

It sounds a little absurd to consider doing an entire trailer but I'm sure someone will. How much weight would that add to the trailer?
