Hello,
I have a pump style faucet in my 1962 Shasta Airflyte that does not prime. Strangely enough, when I removed the faucet I noticed that when I shook it, it sounded like I was shaking a rattle can of spray paint (Hopefully this helps in the troubleshooting). I would very much like to rebuild/repair what is believed to be the original faucet in the trailer. The only markings I can find on the faucet is "Central" engraved on the front.
Any help anyone can afford me in the process would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Topper

Picture? Sounds like the gaskets have dried out...

I believe that the "rattle" is normal. If I remember right, there is a check ball inside, which acts to prevent the faucet from back-flowing out to the tank. The ball would draw in with the inward pump of the faucet, then press against the inlet when pressure is applied to the pump.
"Central" = Central Brass...a large manufacturer of faucets et al from the 50's thru the 70's actually...they were huge in the market of home and commercial faucets. Even so, I have not been able to find any real useful information regarding the pump faucets themselves. I had hoped there may be rebuild kits for them, but haven't found such a thing yet.

I think there used to be "kits" for them, not anymore...

Topper, please post a picture of your faucet. If it is like mine, about the only thing that goes bad in these things is the rubber pump seal. The rattle you hear is a little steel ball that is a check valve to prevent the water from going back to the tank once it reaches the faucet. If you unscrew the base of the pump, the little "steely" will fall out, make sure not to lose it. I am trying to remember how the top part came apart but I believe (if memory serves) that again, you unscrew it and can remove the pump assembly from the brass tube. Once that is out you can tell pretty quickly if the pump seal has dried out and cracked. I was lucky and was able to "rejuvenate" mine by soaking it in 3&1 oil then massaging it back to life. If it is cracked or broken, take it to the hardware store and try to find something close other wise? I know of no one that has a kit for these. If you look at Mobiltec's posts you will see he advocates simply replacing them with a new model and has one specific one that he recommends. You might try ebay as a resource. I will post this response in the thread you started and see if some others will chime in. Good luck and here is hoping you succeed.
