Hello everyone. My name is Margie. I live in the Washington DC suburbs. I recently bought a 16-foot 1964 Shasta from a couple in PA. I think it is an Airflyte although there is no paperwork saying so. It had been in their family a long time. My husband and I pulled it back from PA to MD with no problems. She has peeling paint, a torn up passenger side front corner, and some missing reflectors as a result. Right now she is in the RV shop for the MD safety inspection. I just had a call from them and they tell me that there is a lot that needs to be done to pass the safety inspection. I think I will have to bring her home and get to work. The RV place does not seem to be interested in helping me keep things "vintage". Thank goodness for this forum! I'm so happy to find all of you and so grateful for the useful information and resources that are stored here. I'm smitten with this little trailer, so I hope to be able to her her safe and road-ready. There are so many nice places to explore. I was hoping to camp in her this fall but will have to see how much time everything will take to do. I'm not afraid of hard work or tools, but there is a lot to learn it seems. I keep reminding myself that life is about the journey, and not the destination. Thanks for being here!

Bring your baby home and assess the damage. I doubt that "a lot" needs to be done for the safety inspection. Tell us more what the inspection is supposed to show.

What Vik said. Remember, any place that does "inspections" AND sells stuff, will typically find something wrong with the part of your trailer that they sell (which is sometimes a natural occurrence due to their specific knowledge, but it can also be pure opportunism). The PO of the truck I bought took it to a dealer for inspection (silly man), and they wanted $3000 to fix it. I bought it for $500, took it to my mechanic, and got a sticker for another $380. One of those quik-lube-type places once tried to sell me a battery during my inspection, because they sell batteries. Get a copy of the official state inspection requirements and compare it to their report.

Oh and by the by...PICTURES! We are all voyeurs here, and photos are a great introduction....and are a great tool for those of experience to help point out the needs and tricks to fixin' it up! We here may also be able to help positively identify the model with you.
Let me guess...brakes, tires, and rims. Oh and probably a missing marker light or two...
