Aloha! I'm so glad to have found this site! As brand new owner of a 1964 Shasta Airflyte I'm looking forward to soaking in all the knowledge of "those that have gone before". My "baby" is now sitting at my Handy-Andy-Dandy-Man's house where, after I reviewed mobiltec's video on locating a VIN, he has searched and found the VIN plate to ensure it matches the title. Hard to read all but looking good. As a restorer of 1940 and 50 Ford trucks he's excited to help me with this project, a change of pace for him ... and I'm happy to let him. As long as we do it my way! After mining some of the discussions here I believe we both have lots to learn. Fingers are crossed that he's willing!
A bit about me -- I'm an addicted long distance hiker that tends to break bones on hikes over 500 miles in one stretch. The distances are getting shorter between breaks too. I recently happened upon Sisters On the Fly and fell in love with the idea and trailers. Tickled. This will not be the answer to my breaking bones issue but the trailers are cute, bigger than my tent, don't require a 1" pad on the ground, and are limited on the mice (or will be shortly). I'm truly excited -- I will have an adorable home base for any type hiking, fishing, kayaking, biking, etc.
Yes, my friends think I'm having a mid-life crisis but I'm too old for that (56) or I'm getting ready for retirement (contractor, we don't retire -- we look at investments and quit whenever possible!) or have just lost my mind (possibly). What do I think? -- this is going to be a blast and there will be surprises around every corner!
I look forward to getting to know each of you. Aloha!
P.S. Originally from Hawaii and Aloha! was the name given to me in by the long distance hiking community. Old habits die hard. Much like old trailers!

from Hamlet (a '59 Shasta Compact) and his people. We are old - former - backpackers. No broken bones, but too many other physical interruptions. You'll love having a trailer. You can still hike to your heart's content, and come back and sleep comfortably, and not have to deal with a tent in the rain/wind/etc. You'll find lots of good stuff here, but if you've read much, you 'll know that we are all voyeurs at heart and we need pictures!

Thank you for the warm and festive welcome! Happy to provide a picture or several if you'll tell me how to add it to the post. Click the picture link and I don't really have a url to provide. Or so I think. No drag and drop function?

Welcome and Aloha!
Put your pictures at a picture site like Photobucket. Click on the IMG link and paste in your post... pretty easy. There's also a tutorial in Forum Info.

Aloha Aloha...
There are other hikers/trailerites like yourself around. I'm one. I need to get Pamela on this board too because she is an avid long distance hiker and owns two Oasis'. She just did the 210 mile John Muir Trail. With all the fires in the Sierras it must have been a bit smokey at times. I haven't heard from her since she left in the beginning of August. Can't wait to hear how it went.
You have a very healthy attitude towards your project. I think you will do just fine. Hope my vids helped you out a bit.
