Where is the best place to buy a new plastic water tank? I want to have it fitted to match my original drain hole and my 3/8" copper line (with a flared end and brass screw thread fitting. Do I need to cut off that fitting and start with something new?

I don't know if this is the best place, but I came across this site and the prices look pretty good. I know that I paid more for the tank I put in last summer, but I'm not sure if the quality is the same or how to compare them. Just thought I would share this link. www.plastic-mart.com/category/33/rv-water-tanks

I would replace the copper lines with Pex or poly tubing. Reason being, copper is usually split in the most inopportune places...
The old flare fittings work but adding to a system like this is not fun-if the copper isn't split it's "swollen" and won't accept any new nuts or fittings.
Flare-it fittings work very well for Pex or Poly. Do a little research before making final decisions.
Also, on the tank, you can get ABS tanks fairly reasonably, they are 8" high x 16" wide, whatever length you need. The fill is easy to glue (ABS glue) and there are 5 threaded holes in either end, 3/8" IP.

Vikx,
Did all of your message come through? Little confused. Where can I get those tanks you mentioned (Platic-Mart)? I have seen some tanks that provide the fittings for the user to install. Plasticmart sells them as well as doing it for you with some kind of heat weld. Wondering if any of that matters. Plus, I need a air vent so I can use my rocket hand pump.

Any large RV dealer has them. There are hundreds of choices along with generic ones which is what Vikx is talking about. I've used the ABS and love it. Just get all the shavings from any holes you may drill out before you fill it with water. Richardson's RV is who I buy mine from and you can order from them online but if you have a large RV center that does repairs and sells parts they should have what you need or can have it there in a few days.

If you can't find the tank you want, you can modify one... I wanted a vertically-oriented tank to increase the floor space in my bedroom, which meant I needed the fill on the narrower "edge" instead of the wide "top". I looked for a new tank that would work, and couldn't find one, and a custom tank wasn't in my budget. So I cut the filler out, including an eight-inch square around it, and cut a matching square out of the edge, then swapped them. I used a soldering iron and hot glue gun to weld the patches in their new homes. Stood it on the lawn and filled it, and only had to re-weld one tiny leak, and the patch with the water weight on it seemed quite strong. If you had to, you could do the same thing to move fittings around. There's only one undeleted pic left on my rebuild thread on the old forum that shows what it looks like, almost to the bottom of the page, but the explanation is still there: vintageshasta.proboards.com/thread/648/76-shasta-rebuild
