This is the front window to my 1960 Shasta Airflyte. One of the stationary side panes is missing. I need to get the framing apart to be able to replace the glass. I don't really see any obvious way of taking the frame apart to get the new glass pane in? Anyone have any insight?

Hi Theresa, There are two screws in each corner of the main back frame behind the flange and possibly covered with putty. With those out you can remove the side. If you still cant get the fixed frame out move to the next vertical and remove its screws and so on.
The screws will either be Phillips head or Clutch head (bow tie looking).
Once you have the fixed frame out,I believe you will find it pinched together, you may have to pry the corners open a bit to get it apart.

So, I got the window apart, and in the groove where the glass was, there's a black strip of something... some sort of flat putty or seal or strip of something adhesive. Does anyone know what this black goop is? (It's factory) and what/where I would buy to replace it?

Be SURE to use Windex on the seal before placing glass. Allows for adjustments...

OK, and one last question so I can finish up this godforsaken window.... are the aluminum glazing strips available to buy new? Lots of mine have some of the black glazing tape residue on it, and two of them bent a bit getting them out because they were so stuck. I could probably clean and reuse them, but I'm thinking that depending on the price, replacing might be easier, if they're even available?
