I was wondering if anyone out there (here) has any idea where I can get a screen door latch? The one I need is the one that, when you open the door, the screen door will be connected with it allowing both to open at the same time. I see all the holes where it used to be...uuugh.

I just replaced mine. Still had the metal plate on the screen door, what you need for the exterior door is a sort of double-magnet assembly. There's a plastic housing and two magnets that stand out, on edge; I think they are also spring-loaded. Anyhow, the magnet holds against the steel plate on the screen door and you can open and close both, in tandem. This was the original setup on mine, but I bought a replacement at a local (non-chain) hardware store for a few dollars. They still make them, shouldn't be too hard to find.

Can you tell us the brand name or what the item was called so I know whet to ask for? We need one also!

Thanks, Hoosier...a pic of that set-up would also help...and around here, hardware stores look at me like I have 8 heads when I asked about them. RV place here don't sell them because they either come installed on the camper or are already installed on door assemblys.

On my '67 it looks as if there was a grommet made of rubber on the screen and a round headed screw on the door. The rubber grommet would accept the head of the screw screw and mate the two together. Is this not what others have? I am looking for the replacement rubber piece but if there is a solution, I too would love to see it!

The part is Amerock BP9765-3PT, I checked and it's available on Amazon. They only show the magnet part (that goes on the exterior door) but it does come with a steel plate, it's what goes on the screen door. I will post some pictures of mine so you can see how it works. It is very efficient, and definitely original to my '61 Shasta.

I was thinking about building a wooden screen door with a spring to replace my aluminum one, so it makes the proper childhood "slam" sound when it closes. Instead of a "clank".

Holy crap is that type of magnetic latch hard to find. All I could find were the side-mounting type. BUT I did find someone on Feebay with them so if anyone needs one, there are 2 dealers on Feebay with a few left. One dealer has em for $8.95 and the other has them for $12.95. Randy

I think Camping World carries both styles.
