Well this new thick metal is really tough to cut and my poor old hands start hurting sooner than they used to. I've used electric shears before and had mixed feelings about them But they were old and kinda tore up. Now I believe I have a good use for a set so I'm heading down to the local toy store (Harbor Freight) tomorrow to pick up a set of new electric metal shears.
.030 thick aluminum is about the same as 22 gauge I believe. This thing works all the way to 14 gauge which is more than twice as thick as the metal I'm cutting. Should work great for trimming the roof edges in preparation for the fold over.

Larry,
Nice. Watching you hand cut the siding in your videos looks very tedious and somewhat painful. It was nice to see it can be done with hand shears, but your new tool should easily pay for itself in efficiency. Looking forward to further reports.

Looking forward to your report/video on how they work. The Vampliers you told me about are a God send. There are definitely some tools that can make this process a lot easier!

I have a battery powered shear similar to those that I bought about 10 years ago and I can't imagine not having them. They make everything much easier.

I have a set of those and they have worked great thus far. The thing I like about them is that the trigger speed is variable, like a drill. It makes very or is cuts possible if you take your time. They will practically walk their at right through the metal. I used them on .040 and had no issues.

The variable speed was a nice surprise. My other ones didn't have that feature. Today I was cutting .030 roof material. Also used them a bit on the sides which have 4 inch brakes.
