My Shasta has the original Astral refrigerator. I had it hooked up and running for 2 full days and never got below 49 in the freezer. From what i read from the previous threads this sounds pretty common.
In hopes of not paying an arm and a leg for a new Fridge I have been babysitting CL. As mobiltec pointed out in SoCal the Dometic RM2551 refrigerators can be had on CL for ~500 . This is not as small as the Astral I had but beats the sticker price on the smaller Norcold/Dometic. Today I found a Dometic that is the same as the 2551 but it is from a late 90's trailer for only 150. The guy said it works without any issues on both shore power and 12v. He said that last year he had a window replaced from his trailer and decided to upgrade the fridge. Not sure why you would replace something if there are no issues but that's what he said. He is not able to hook it up so I would have to take it and verify it works at home.
So question is should I pay a few hundred more and have the piece of mind with a new one, or chance it with a 20 year old one?

Same story in my Super. Original Astral fridge gets cool, but not cold. I believe Mobiltec is putting in a Dometic 2351. I'm not certain, but I think it is the same size as the original.
Hard call on going old/ saving money or spending some cash on new and figuring you should get at least 20 years from it.

New.
Propane fridges are notorious for failing. Some will last a while, others, a day.
Don't waste the time and money on a used propane unit. JMO

I just got a call from the used fridge guy. He said that there was this one time last summer on a hot desert day that it did not cool they way it is supposed to. He was feeling guilty and said I can come get it for free. If he was close I would go for it but it would have added 2 hours of driving to my day tomorrow so going to bag it. So yeah gonna go new I suppose

If it were me, I would be driving after it. Hard to beat "free".
Aside from the fact that the propane refrigerators fail and are expensive/impossible to fix, small refrigerators of any ilk will not cool like a home fridge when they are up against extreme temperatures.
