Nobody did any hijacking, everything is cool I was glad for your reply. It got us thinking and as my husband said, we are going to all the trouble to get the good birch panels so we can replace the inside just like it was, not to mention all the other stuff to keep it original we really should leave the windows alone. So now we are going to put in a shelf and I had a cool idea of using vintage suitcases as storage on the shelf. Of course that will probably cost more than the cabinet would have, but it's going to look awesome and my husband knows me well by now My road trip buddies are much smaller than yours, a Puggle and a Mini Dachshund, but they need their room in the trailer also. Unfortunately, or fortunately however you look at it, they think their spot is my spot so are usually in bed with me. We didn't get a lot of work done today as my husband had to work, but we did finally get up and inspect the roof(I know we're really lucky on how good it is, and we should have checked before buying it). I was worrying about what condition we would find, and other than the vent, which we knew about, it is in great condition and has no goop other than paint on it I was also able to get samples of the original paint colors and am still surprised by the top color. You can't see it as well in the picture, but it is actually a green color. The trailer still had the traditional Westerner paint design, but they went crazy with this one. Tomorrow I need to do more calling for brake lights and hubby is going to pick up the wood to start removing skin and repair framing. Of course we still have to find a couple guys to go out to my uncle's with him and help put up the carport we got, that thing is a beast, it takes two to lift safely. Anyway, that's where we are now. Thanks for reading. Margaret

Wow, those are original paint colors? Love those! I would color match and re-do those the same. (Matches my house ) You have a very cool trailer.

Great colors. A couple of months ago I began thinking of a color scheme for Lola. Based on an early Westerner hand drawn advertisement here is what I came up with. Interesting the color (I described it as "1950’s period gray teal" in the blog) is very close to your original color. Very cool!

The colors are close to what you want on Lola. I think we are going back with the original colors and design, which we can still see because we can see where the silver stripes were. I actually bought fabric for the curtains before seeing the colors and they will match great. I'm not sticking with a western theme, I just can't, had to deal with too much of the cowboy decor while my father-in-law was alive. This is what I'm doing It is actually bark cloth vintage curtains and I'll make curtains for the trailer from it. At least I'm sticking with the same era ?

I like it. Definitely has the 50's vintage feel. There were a couple of threadbare curtains laying on the floor when I got Lola - they have a teal background with sunflowers. I like the pattern and think the sunflowers fit without being too "Western". Here's a pattern that is very similar that I've been thinking about: There can be too much of a good thing.

I like sunflowers too, but wonder about such a big bold print in a little trailer. Are you leaving the floor and counter/table original, or are you changing them out? If your leaving them you could probably get away with such bold curtains. The design on mine is actually a close up and there is more blank space to offset the pattern. But that fabric is really cute. Will be interested in seeing the final look. Teachndad's benches look like they are built different from mine, I wonder if the difference is due to changes made by a PO. I think I'm going to try rebuilding our more in line with Andy's, they just look sturdier. Thanks for the links.

Love the colors in your fabric, the pick and teal look good together.

Today we had a breakthrough, we BOTH agreed on what to do with the counter and table top. I was shocked, my husband hasn't liked one thing for the trailer that I have, it's a good thing we have a while to make these decisions. I don't remember him having opinions when we built our house, but he sure is now. I read a thread on here (I thought, I have read so many lately that I'm losing track of where I've been) about someone (?vikx?) potting rosin on their table. Someone else (afternoons?) Was going to be redoing her counter with paint, glitter and confetti stars under the resin. I thought that was the answer to our problem of not finding any formica we both liked, unfortunately our table and counter are way too far gone. So I was browsing the internet again in the hopes I had missed any vintage formica, when a lightbulb went on and it dawned on me that I could cover the table and counter in something else and resin over that. I thought I might use fabric, but then thought the plywood may show through. So I came up with vintage wallpaper!!!! I spent a couple hours looking last night and found some I fell in love with. I thought hubby would hate it though and was blown away when he said he LIKED it. Of course I didn't tell him it was wallpaper until after, and I didn't mention the price of it either until he was convinced, but we now have the stuff coming for our tops, the food safe resin epoxy is carried by Lowe's, and I'll be doing the work so all is well tonight. Isn't it pretty??? And very inline with the '50's Now to just agree on going with BOTH original colors, flooring, updating the vent to a fantastic fan, building a shelf for more storage and the list goes on and on and on.......

I love it! And I'm a little jealous. I wish I'd thought of it. Instead, I have a sheet of Wilsonart on it's way for my table and countertops. Enjoy, it's beautiful. And be sure to pos pictures of it installed.

Theresa, I probably would have gone with Wilsonart also if I hadn't seen that thread about making their own counter ( vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/3982/countertop-project ) and it get me thinking about fixing my originals. When that didn't pan out I almost gave up, but then remembered that they were making their own, so I did more research to see what could be used under shellac and, Voila. I'm sure yours will look great, and who knows, I may screw this up and have to go with Wilsonart, which is why I'm not telling hubby how much the wallpaper cost. He's seen a few of my crafty ideas in the past go sideways, so he is naturally questioning my success a little lol.

I myself have been a "victim" of many of Pinterest failures, crafting gone wrong, and far too ambitious projects that are now abandoned in a corner somewhere.

Mystery connections solved? ? Today I think we solved what the weird connection in Lil Bit's wardrobe was and why it was to connect something from outside on the curbside. My husband decided to take it out and was surprised to find so much attached to it (excuse the bare feet, I HATE shoes). The tank measures 22 3/4 x 16 1/2 x 4 1/2. It was under the last shelf in the wardrobe in the area with the wheel well. It was attached to a short copper tube that ended in another connection on the side of the wardrobe right by the door. This is where we assumed a heater was located because there is also a round vent stack that exits the trailer through the roof in this area. I had noticed that none of the other '57 Westerner's had any of this, but figured ours had been installed at a later date. We were going to change out the propane lines that lead there and put a new heater in its place. Well that won't work, because the original heater was WHITE GAS!!! Hubby brought the tank in to show me when he took it out, but I was holding grandbaby at the time so couldn't really examine it. We spent some fun time trying to figure out how it had been used until I got up close with it. That sucker is HEAVY, but I got a look and a smell at it. Apparently my hubby has no sense of smell anymore, because it was plain as day to me I was smelling gas.. I'm actually glad the heater is gone and we don't have to figure out what to do with it, now we just need to figure how to dispose of the tank. In other news, got the oven and icebox doors stripped, hubby of course fought with the paint on the trailer all day, and I had the joy of taking care of Grandbaby all afternoon, so didn't get anything else accomplished. That's all for now, thanks for reading.

Finally after a week of bad weather Hubby can get to stripping the rest of the paint from Lil' Bit. He has Monday and Tuesday off so had planned to work on it all day both days, but Code Enforcement came around today because someone complained about the two trailers on our street, ours and one down a bit from us. Now we have 48 hours to get uncle's place ready for her and get her out there. We need to mow down waist high weeds to make room for the temporary carport we got to keep her in and then get that beast installed. We were hoping to get her all stripped and the j-rail off here so we could work on cleaning it up, now he will have to finish down there and bring the rail back. In other news, I'm reconsidering the plate set I bought for the trailer. I bought them before the trailer because I had never seen anything like them and I'm crazy for purple. Now the only other thing going in the trailer that has even a tiny bit of purple is the curtains, and they only have a tiny amount. They really don't match the old girl very much I think, and hubby is tolerating them cause I already have them. So what do you think??? Should I sell the ones I have and get others that will go better, or just forget it and keep what I have? Here's a pic: In other news, I got the vintage wallpaper for my table and counter tops so as soon as my health evens back out I can get to work on them. I'm kinda looking forward to it, but kinda not cause that stuff STINKS!!!!! Think of old moldy, musty books dried out a bit and multiply that smell by ten and you might have an idea of what this paper smells like. Thank goodness it's going under resin cause I don't think the smell would ever go away. I can't imagine using this stuff on walls inside a home ugh. We also got the icebox stripped and are going to need to find a replacement for the lower shelf liner. It's really rusty, probably was not taken care of at all. And finally, I got my emblem back from this guy I sent it to so he could make a mold to make replacement plastic emblems for other Westerner owners. I was a worried mother when till it came back, but other than a little molding material still between a couple of the letters, it's just like it was when it left. It's great to know some people can still be trusted these days. Ignore that last comment, family drama around here for a few days making me grumpy. TIA for thoughts on the dishes and will update again when we have more progress.
