Hey trailer talkers, I have an 18 ft 1965 FAN camper (pics to follow) that I am completely re-wiring to 30 amp. I've been researching and have a decent idea about how I'll wire the thing. I think. And let me say at the outset that before I put power to anything I am having my electrician friend give it the onc eover. I plan to dry camp most of of the time. I have a 1500 watt pure sine inverter, 45 amp converter charger, AC/DC Panel. I plan to wire all the lights, fans, fridge (with gas), H2O pump with 12 volt and with the inverter one socket, small microwave, and maybe a coffee machine. Questions: 1) could I use this switch (Bryant 3025BRN Toggle Switch, Double Pole, Double Throw, 30A, 120/27nd 7V AC) to move between shore and the inverter (and off) rather than a transfer switch (due to cost)? 2) the existing wiring to the lights is solid rather than stranded wire. Any problems with this as they're already in place. I want to change the socket to 12 volt? 3) Everything I read says to wire an individual circuit for every light, fan etc. Is this necessary? because I'd like to have 3 lights wired in series for example. I understand the importance with all the AC stuff. ANy info greatly appreciated. Scott

Hi Scott,
I don't see any reason that you can't use the original 110 wiring for 12 volt but I would consider changing the fixtures to 12 volt and adding LED bulbs. Another option is 12 volt bulbs to fit the 110 sockets.
Most circuits have multiple items. Each circuit can support many as long as total amps drawn are not more than the breaker/fuse/wiring will allow.
I'll be moving this to our electrical section in a few.

Scott Make sure your electrical friend is knowledgeable on trailer wiring as it grounds different than residential wiring.
