Hi Friends,
I am looking for the modern day replacement grease seal for the hub off of a Hadco 394 hub. This hub is on a 66 Scotsman. It's a breakless axle. I figured the axle/hub combo must be on other trailers from the mid 60's.
The original grease seal has 2M 3077 2M on the side.
I can have it measured, but the inner ID is stretched. I found a reference to someone in a blog that found a 442251 on one side of the same hub and a 2M 3077 2M on the other. The assumption was that the side with the 442251 had been replaced at one time. So, maybe that's the go to grease seal.
Just checking any other options.
Thanks for looking.
Rod

Hi Mark,
Thanks for spending the time to look up those part numbers! I am amazed how you found the part at Enduro Engineering. How on Earth did you do that?
I had found the AbI industries website and emailed them, but they never responded. The Hadco Engineering link seems like a no brainer. You would think they could reference an old part number. I have been reading references that Hadco might be belly up. But, I will call next week to follow up on the grease seal as well as a castle nut. In the process of regreasing the bearings, I lost one of the castle nuts from the Scotsman and it's an odd size. I ended up finding a used castle nut from Chris Trombley. For future reference maybe I can find out if Hadco still makes the older castle nuts. I can't be the only one making bone-head moves like tossing the castle nut in the trash by mistake, LOL.
When finding grease seals, is it the outer diameter the most important measurement? It seems to me that the inner ID could be fractionally off because it's elastic.
Thanks again,
Rod

BTW, I thought I would share a bit more on the Hadco 394 Hub that is on the 66 Scotsman. The spindle has what I will call a spindle sleeve on it that the inner rubber from the grease seal seals up against. You can see it best in this video that I made. I ask a question at the end of the video, but I came to the conclusion that its most likely typical for the axle and the time of manufacture.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi Friends, I called Hadco and asked. Once she found out it was a Hadco 394 hub from 1966, , she just said, "That's obsolete. It's too old." Cheers, Rod

I read somewhere on this thread that Hadco is "belly up" and that someone called here at Hadco and someone told them that the hub was too old and obsolete. Well sir, I'd like to tell you that the original grease seal for this 394 hub (2M) Series is and always has been available. It is Hadco Part No. 523043 (2M) 3077 in the description. We actually still also carry a replacement hub. It may look different, but it takes the same bearings, grease seal and Dust cap. It is a non-braking hub, we cannot put a brake drum on it. The hub is # 522061 (2M)Hub 5-4 1/2 and it is also available in a 5-4.75 Chevy Pattern. You may go to www.hadcoengineering.com to see this hub replacment and a complete list of parts. Today is 3/7/17 and the website is currently being updated. This (2M) hub should be available to see within a week, so I'd say about 3/14/17. Sorry about the runaround that you were given here there and everywhere. Hadco these days makes "Steering" trailer axles, but we still stock alot of older items Thank You, Adele Drew General Manager Hadco Engineering, Inc. Thank you hadcoengineering, Adele. Any chance of procuring the old style round brake magnets? I've got a couple of trailers that are in need...

Wow,now that is what I call service. When a manager of a big company will hunt down a person with a problem then give them the solution to the problem, well, it absolutely does not get any better than that. Thank You so much Adele for Your concern. @vikx I have one of the round magnets that works. If the one You need has the round mounting hole then this could possibly fit. I had a thread going about the magnet, if You can find the thread then there will be a pic. and measurements. I will send it to you if You would like. If Yours has the square mounting hole then trailertrasher has some of those.

Hi Adele, I am so grateful that you have responded. It's so nice to see your company's support. While, I no longer own this trailer, your response to the thread will no doubt help countless people who are doing an internet search and find this thread. We also benefit, as it will bring others to the forum. Many thanks! Rod
