well I am putting in a new Galley, to hold a fridge, 2 induction stove tops and a two compartment sink. it is slow going, figuring what I need to do as I go along, what do I need to use the build the counter top out of, 1/2 plywood? 3/4 inch ply, MDF??? here it is so far.

I would stay away from MDF, it is heavy and if any water does migrate into it, it will deteriorate very quickly. Based on your layout, you could probably get by with 1/2 inch plywood by putting another stiffener above the fridge to help prevent any sag from occurring in this space. It is the only large working surface that could be suspect. Now, having said all of that, if I were doing this in my unit, I would use 3/4 inch plywood. It is the best (in my opinion) counter top base material.

I agree, no MDF. Also remember to insulate above the fridge to keep the counter top an even temperature.

well I am building a new Galley to fit my needs. it will hold my fridge, 2 induction stove tops, and a dual compartment sink. i'm using 1x2 lumber and covering it with 1/4 inch birch. I've got the frame built, 3 drawers with slides, and the outside birch piece cut out. I will post pics as it progresses, thoughts? ideas?

didn't get a lot done yesterday, I got the 1/4 inch birch skin put on the frame of the galley, took forever to measure and cut it out right, then sand and shellac.

I got a little more done on the Galley, all shelves doors completed and the top cut out. I used 19/32 plywood for the top, it's between 1/2 and 3/4 inch. That way when I add the laminate top I can use 1/4 inch trim and it should fit well, the wife is wanting a white marble laminate top.
