Hi, Can I replace the light socket on a wedding cake lens base? In the one pictured below, the lightbulb was rusted into the socket and I had to destroy the lightbulb base to get it out. The socket is still intact, but it has no bottom anymore.

Many times I purchase either repair parts from NAPA, or if they don't have available what I need then I purchase an inexpensive light that has the parts then remove them and install in old light. Also if reflector is bad you can glue a layer of alum foil over it for a bright reflective surface.

I bought a light socket like that on ebay. It didn't have the metal plate it sits on. It came on a very, very slow boat and took three weeks to arrive.

Hi,
I need to remember to try my local auto parts store first. I didn't think of that. BigBill, you are ever the resourceful one with your suggestions.
eBay of course and then there is also VTS. They have the light socket for less than 4 bucks and shipping was about the same and I never left the house. I figured it was worth a shot rather to go to buying a full base and lens package.
Turns out the Scotsman comes with Reflecto Lite lenses which are 7" in diameter. The lenses they sell at VTS are bargeman 99 size and 6.5" in diameter. more retrofitting..., or gamble with a $4 part.
Cheers,
Rod

If you pick up a socket with out the angle mounting tab you can make a tab then remove the wires and bulb base plate from the new socket and solder the socket to your new angle you made then reinstall the base plate and wiring. this is fairly simple and you wind up with a new socket for your light.

Sockets with brackets are available at Vintage Trailer Supply. They have both single and double filament.

Took apart a pair of new trailer lights for the sockets. Riveted those to the original backplates. Worked like a charm since. You would never know it from outside the lense.

Oddly enough, the LED bulbs I just bought at NAPA came with a socket on one of the bulbs in the 2-pack, because the sales display has a little solar panel and contacts to touch the packages to see the bulbs light up. So if you happen to be looking for LED bulbs anyway, go to NAPA and get a free socket.
