I'm interested in learning more about rock guards, design, mounting hardware used etc. Post your works of art and function here? We started making our attempt at putting a rock guard together today. Due to our metal brake size limitations, we're using a three panel design. We like the sunburst pattern so that's going in the middle, similar to Larry's DeVille rock guard. Here is the old rock guard mounting hardware: I like some aspects of our old hardware, ease of use and it's low profile but it requires another penetration for preventing the guard from flipping up. Do folks here like the VTS mounting hardware?

You are becoming true 'brake artists'! Very impressive work. Thanks Kirkadie! We're into the fun stuff where not much effort has a big payoff. Unlike the tear down and frame/panel stage, that's rough, and requires some stamina.

I think the best thing about your documentation is the obvious enthusiasm you and your mechanic partner have shown through out this rebuild. It has been a pleasure to watch. I'll bet you guys don't stop with this one, but I'll also bet this one will be your keeper. Hope to see your work out in a campground sometime... hope to get mine in a campground sometime. Dang, it's another nap time.

You're funny Kirkadie. Thanks for the comic relief! We are thinking about number 2. For sure the Rainbow is a keeper, no sense in selling something for a loss when all you want to do is enjoy it. Plus our kids would kill us. Of course they also think we're crazy for wanting number 2. And you should see the look on our neighbors faces when we say we might get another one. Two trailers apparently says crazy person. Anyway here is a mock up of the overall rock guard design: Even without a hand brake, there are many different types of aluminum and plastic panels out there that could be used to make an interesting rock guard. And it can be done for less $ than the ones I've seen for sale online.

This is looking great you guys. Hey aren't those sunbursts fun to make? You have to be careful not to end up with a big cone cuz it won't flatten out well if you make the bends too deep. Looks like you nailed it. Now if you really want to finish this trailer off with yet another Deville gotta have... you can install a switch from your running lights to the battery that you can switch on all your exterior lights with. That way when you walk away from the trailer at night it's easy to spot coming back from the park bar. It's just a switch leg from the battery to the hot wire of the running lights. Ground does the rest. Simple and put it down by the door just inside. Easy to get to from outside.
