So I found out tonight that the hood vent in our Frolic was put there "just for looks". It's not hooked up at all. I'll have to give it a better look tomorrow, but I don't know if I even saw any wiring to hook it up. How necessary do you guys think it is for cooking in the camper?

I doubt our vent does much, there is a vent hole to the outside but no fan, which I think was typical in the 1950's canned hams from my observations. I've even seen some trailers with no vent, not sure that was original.
However, I think the vent is cute. I repainted ours with white appliance paint and I have new plastic door trim to replace the discolored original trim. The vent looks great with the old stove.
We added a Fantastic Fan to our trailer which I suspect will provide better ventilation while cooking. But when we're all done with our trailer and actually using it for camping, we plan to cook outside, except when it's raining and then we'll want the vent closed...Ok we won't be cooking in the trailer, except when it's really cold.

So we took our first camping trip with our 67 Frolic Ana we loved it! We can't wait to go again! I did cook in the camper without a hood and it seemed fine for anyone who is wondering. I wouldn't mind having at least the light work though, although that's not necessary either. We might see if we can get it to work, there's no wiring anymore from what I can see so not sure we can.
I did take it down and had decided it looked better with the hood up, but it is wasted space in such a small kitchen area, I'm still toying with the idea of taking it down so that I can put a shelf all the way across. We'll see....

The main idea of the hood in old trailers was in case of a grease fire it gave you an extra minute to get it out before the cabinet caught fire plus it also caught the grease that rose with the heat helping to keep the front of your cabinet nicer. Also it made it look nicer, more like home.
