I've read that some people have issues with paint adhering. Anybody here have an opinion on it? Any long term issues?

I usually use zinc screws if I'm going to paint. Stainless just seam "slicker" to me...
Not sure if paint adheres well or not. Anyone??

I have never had any issues with painting SS screws. I have used Rustoleum paints and Valspar Premium Finish.

I have never had any issues with painting SS screws. I have used Rustoleum paints and Valspar Premium Finish. How long has it been since painting SS screws? Has the paint held up for years? vikx, do you order the zinc screws in bulk from a place like www.mcmaster.com/#tapping-screws/=z6g317 ? No rust issues?

When I painted the skirts on our Starflyte, the first time, which was in 2012, had no issues with the harsh winter conditions of the NC mountains in Ashe county. Once we moved back to Charlotte, had to make repairs to the skirts and the paint was still intact on the ss screws.
So, in my case, it worked for me.
As for McMaster Carr, always bought my screws in bulk from them and usually had them in hand in 2 days, since they were coming from Atlanta.

I usually buy my screws from the local hardware store if zinc. They are about the same money as ordering and shipping.
For my fancy stainless truss head screws (think canned ham with real aircraft aluminum), I order from Fastenal. Believe it or not, they charge shipping, even when ordered from the local store. Screws aren't cheap.

Do you guys replace hex head screws with hex head, or fancy it up with torx or other? Anyone buy their screws from Amazon?

I replace hex heads with hex. Again, local hardware stores, usually zinc. Hex are often easily removed even when rusty, so something to think about.
Stainless are great but a person MUST take care. The heads can be damaged by a slipped bit... Yeah, been there.
I buy local, or Fastenal, even tho Fastenal irritates me.

All of the screws I used on my trailer were Stainless Steel. I have had no issues whatsoever after 5 years. Theoretically, zinc and aluminum aren't as compatible as SS and Aluminum, but I doubt you'll ever see any issues either way. I'd be concerned with rust if using zinc, but if painting it'll be fine to.
I ordered most of my screws from Boltdepot.com. Cost for stainless steel online is similar to the cost of zinc screws at the local hardware store.

Thanks Danbrown. The only thing I disagree with is the "self tapping" point. Most of the time, it is helpful for metal to metal connections, but have had some trouble with it enlarging wood holes...
This may be crazy, but I've actually ground off the tap when using this type of screw. Obsessed, that's me.
