I need a new water heater for my trailer and want something new and efficient. Are these models highly recommended? I just need something that will be enough for two people, and it will be pretty much for cooking only since I'm not putting a bathroom in. I might want an exterior shower but am not seeing the need for an interior shower. sacramento.craigslist.org/rvs/5179579020.html

Stanley, I can't give you an answer because I have no experience with it. I would be very careful buying it if it is used. And I suggest you check your options because there are some really nice tankless, compact water heaters on the market relatively cheap, electric or propane. Check out some other models and read their reviews while you're waiting for someone with some knowledge about this particular one.
Are you replacing one that is installed or are you starting from scratch?

I agree, much more research is needed...

I'm starting from scratch. I hear you about just buying something new but I'm always looking for a bargain!

Here is a thread to review as part of your basic research; www.campingworld.com/blog/post/how-to-choose-a-water-heater-for-your-rv/I see some discussion threads on our friendly RYT Forum site discussing the pros and cons of Atwoods. The unit you are looking at used appears to be available new on this site for threads about $480. www.americanrvcompany.com/Atwood-GH6-8E-GH68E-Electronic-Ignition-DSI-6-Gallon-RV-Trailer-Water-Heater-LP-Gas-With-Heat-Exchanger-96136-96270-Camper-Trailer-RVI'd do a search for reviews of that particular unit. I'm not much of a cook, but am wondering if the expense for any hot water heater for mainly cooking is justified. Doesn't bottled water heat up just fine as you begin the cooking process. You will have the purchase, and maintenance cost with a heater. As for that outside shower. You might consider a simple solar heated set-up for a quick shower as the real bargain route. Finally I have to admit, I'm an ex-safety professional who installed and maintained compressed "safe breathing air" systems on off-shore drilling sites that were drilling in rank Hydrogen Sulfide bearing zones. I was continuously "chasing leakers" (fittings) on the hundreds of feet of line I installed caused by the rig vibrations. Campers vibrate all the time too while being towed. When I do my rebuilds, I will not re-install any propane lines or devices for my use, although I may do it when I decide to sell.

You know what, I have been wondering whether I should put a water heater in. There isn't a dedicated hole for it in the skin so I'd have to figure that out and I do like to take solar showers, especially here in CA where it only takes a few hours to heat the water up.
I think I'll wait on this.

I think it might be wise to wait and see just how much you might want/need a water heater after camping for a while. It is easy to pull the trigger...harder to get that bullet back when you realize it missed the target, and hit your wallet, an innocent bystander instead.
