Alright guys now forgive me as I don't have much electrical experience at all (I'm only 22 and this is pretty much the first time i've tried to fix anything electrical). And I don't know many electrical terms so bear with me! So I purchased my first vintage camper about a month ago (1969 12 foot Corsair) and really everything was going well until last time we had some heavy rain. I was entering my trailer with no shoes and kinda wet feet and when I went to open the door I felt an electric vibration ( Note it wasn't serious enough to really shock me and send me flying but it was there). Ive heard about this hot skin thing in the past so I thought ok this isn't good. So I unplugged the trailer immediately and started around ( once everything was dry) and doing some research..
I was reading that it could be a grounding issue so I went under the camper to check out the situation and the ground was in kinda bad shape (rusty frayed wire with no terminal under a rusty bolt. So I re did the ground you can see in the picture below.. The brown at the end of the wire is only paint.
So I went to plug the trailer in again to see if the new grounding situation fixed it but I still felt a slight vibration on the skin of the trailer.. Note the ground wasn't wet either so it could be worse when it is.. It's weird because I only feel the vibration on one side of the trailer ( the side with the door) but no where else. I don't really understand this because there aren't really any wires on that side unless there is something hidden under the skin.. I also have one of those Klein Tools voltage meters and it beeps only on one side (and even on the rubber tire? so i don't even know how accurate the thing really is.)
So at this point I'm pretty lost and I'll probably end up dishing a lot of money to have it looked at by some specialist that doesn't even really know about vintage campers only new ones.. So I figures I'd see if anyone has any suggestions here before I do that.
Here's a picture of the little box on the tongue of the trailer with the wiring set up
I'm not sure if this is 100% right but it's how it came. it goes
Red/Red
White/Brown
Green/black
Not sure if anything in this box can have anything to do with the problem but I unscrewed the caps and the wires weren't even wrapped around each other good at all. Could that have anything to do with it? It's just so weird how the vibration is only on one side but there is no breaker box or anything on that side.
So anyway I appreciate if you can help me at all. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
