I really like how the original has a switch instead of that cord that the new ones have, and I like how it also has a plug. Which I haven't seen a new one with both, only one or the other. Is this too far gone to save? maybe spray paint the rust? would that plug even fit a modern plug? Thoughts? similar replacement?

A switch can be changed and a plug can be added to a new fixture with very little effort if that is what you desire. That fixture is sad. Anything can be fixed but is it worth the cost.

Yes you can save the fixture...if it is the original. I saved mine by wire wheeling the rust off and spray painting. I replaced the push button switch as well. If the socket is suspect replace that too. All in the name of keeping it original.

Mine wasn't that far gone, but I cleaned it with steel wool. Like Monabones said, you will probably require some paint on that one.

The question is do you want it chrome/stainless or painted. And painted isn't original.

I don't necessary care if the fixture is original or new, I care that it has a switch(I don't care for the pull chain) and I want it to have a plug like the original. I am just having a hard time finding a new one with both of those options. And yes I would prefer it to be stainless to match the counter edging. Has anyone seen these new somewhere? so it can look original even if its not.

Thanks, I will check there.
I should be able to keep the other one original, it doesn't have nearly as much rust.

Awesome, thanks! Let me know if you find it. I will look at all the hardware stores around me, ace aco, lowes, HD and minards.

HD has this one. You might be able to replace the pull chain with your button. But you know, the new chrome paint really doesn't look bad.
