I'm still pretty new to this sight and although I keep looking and trying to figure it out, is there a place that explains what and how things work? What is a post What is a thread What is a quote I must be brain dead but I cannot understand the lingo. I really don't know how to ask a question or where it should be posted. Thank you for your help, Gary

to VVT swampthing. Now swampthing, swampthing SMH, I know how you feel (I learned just a while ago SMH means shaking my head). I taught remedial reading for a while, and in dealing with all things computer, I am at a loss as to why there are not more remedial introductory sections on some of the sites I enter. I bought a Samsung Tablet, got it home and there was no direction booklet inside. I tried to find one to download on line...nope Nothing, NADA, Zilch. I called Best Buy and asked where I could get the manual that was missing from my purchase. The tech person said very condescendingly, there is no Manual, operation is INTUITIVE...meaning any idiot who has a smart phone knows how to operate it, dummy...I have a simple flip phone by the way. To answer your basic question...NO, there is no basic maneuvering about, tutorial. Here are some basics. A thread is a new question or idea that can be introduced into any of the category sections. If you find a heading that you have a question for that category, look in the top right corner once you click on the category and you will see a box called create a thread. Click that and you will get a screen where you can ask your question or introduce an idea you would like to have discussed. Type the gist of your Question/idea in the first (heading) box and then click your cursor at the top left corner on the main clean white space below all the little icons and you can then elaborate on what you put in the heading. You can use any of the icon thingies to go bold italicize underline etc. words in the body or your comment, and if you click on the smiley face icon you can put little emojis sprinkled in your narrative. Then click post message at the bottom A Post is a reply to something a Member has said. As you open a thread, you scroll down and see Member comments. When you scroll down to the last comment, you will see a blank area in a section below that has two boxes "post quick reply" and "go advanced". If you want to make a quick, typed statement only...start typing and when finished, click on post quick reply...viola you have just posted ...if you want to put fancy touches on your post click go advanced and you will get the fancy icons to come up and you can sprinkle in fancy stuff like when you create a thread. If you read a Member's "post"/comment and you want to start a response by quoting them, look at the top right corner of their post box and you will see the word quote. If you click that, down where you can post a quick reply, you will see a lot of lettering that indicates the quoted comment will be introduced first into your reply and then you type your comment regarding the quote. If you read a Member's comment and like what s/he said up in that right corner is a thumbs up icon. If you click that, you will see a statement that swampthing likes this at that post's header. If someone likes what you said they click the thumbs up and when you open and sign in to VTT the next time you will see a number at the top of the sign in opening page. When you click that click on the profile file tab and you will see who liked your comment or quoted you. That is how in your avatar you will see the number of posts you have made and under that how many likes you have received. Finally if you happen to be trying to change something you posted, look up there with the quote and like icons and you will see edit...click that and your comment will come out, in maybe times new roman or a basic type. You can add delete or change what you posted and then go to the bottom right corner and hit save changes. And if you want to edit and you hit like by mistake, meaning you will then see that swampthing liked swampthing's comment, and you are a bit embarrased to look like you gave yourself a like, simply click the thumbs up icon again and it will remove your liking yourself. You can also take back a like for someone, before you save it, by clicking the thumbs up icon a second time, if you change your mind. If you have not fallen asleep or contemplated doing harm to yourself for reading thus far, I hope this helps a bit. The only dumb question is the question NOT ASKED. I am glad you asked your questions, because I am sure there are other new Members who may have been wondering the same thing. Now jump right in and have some fun! Any Member who has read this "short" response, who sees that I have given a wrong or poor explanation, feel free to jump in and help set the instructions straight.

Ok, so I would like everyone to go waaaay back and recall their excitement when they got their first trailer...you probably jumped in with both feet like many of us. Just couldn't WAIT to get started. I'm sure I didn't carefully and methodically navigate the website before posting. Even if I eventually read almost every thread! I agree it does seem funny/sad to see somebody post "has anyone ever put an a/c in their trailer?" but just felt I should offer newbies a little bit of defense. Pretty sure most of them catch on quickly with a bit of kind guidance from the more experienced posters on here.

Hi Gary, and welcome!
If you're not used to web sites, or the lingo, it can be a little confusing.
Website - The virtual version of an actual place. So while we are not all actually SITTING in a forum (or THE Forum in Rome), we can converse almost as though we are. Without the lions, aof course.
Post - Ever see a picture of one of those bright red Scandinavian mailboxes that say "Post"? It's not too different from the meaning here. Post can be a noun (as in, "Her post came too late to give me the information I needed." Or, it can be a verb, as in, "I have to post this before I leave for the weekend." You can '"post a post". Just don't go postal on us, because vikx will delete your post.
Thread - Say you're planning a tailgate party at your football team's first game of the year. You call Dan, he calls Jose, Jose calls you back, then he calls Denise, who then calls Mark, Twila and Steven. Steven calls you back after he's finalized his plans with the others. There is a "thread" of a topic that runs through your conversations: who's bringing the beer? It's the same thing here. A thread is a topic that people post their posts about. Their thoughts, ideas, experience, other input. "HIJACKING A THREAD" - Hijacking is usually a bad thing, well in transportation anyway, but it's also a bit disrespectful to the person who was headed in one direction before s/he got hijacked and dragged somewhere else. When a thread gets hijacked, we stray from the topic far enough that it's hard to get back on the subject again. Of course, this NEVER happens here. Nope, never.
Quote - This is when you acknowledge the brilliance of someone who posted in a thread before you. If you click on the "QUOTE" button, that person's post will show up in a box with room for your reply below.
Like - When you think highly of someone's comments, but are too shy to quote them or otherwise acknowledge it.
Hope we have clarified rather than obfuscated the situation!
And again, welcome!

swampthing, you created a thread here called "I Need Help Navigating This Site." And you have had 3 "posts" or comments in your thread. You are learning. Just try things. Most of us are really friendly and helpful. If you want to try out the "Quote" option, click the "quote" button on this post and write a reply to me. And if my comment was helpful to you, click "Like."

Look at that, swampthing, you have added "quote" to your online repertoire! You'll be an expert in no time.

I started a Thread with new pictures of my trailer that I'm finally working on again. I got a reply from Mobiltech. I want to answer him and add more pictures to my thread. I'm not understanding how to do that. Any suggestions? I just don't seem to get it. Thanks, Gary.

Use the "Quick Reply" window at the bottom of each thread. You can post directly to the thread from there, and can also use the "Advanced" option...clicking "Go Advanced" brings you to another reply window that allows for adding other features, photos, etc. directly to your post.

Swampthing, you can use "quote" to reply or just address Mobil by name, so he knows you're talking to him. As Ten said, write in quick reply and then Post Quick Reply.

Thank You. Now I have to figure out how to add pictures to my Reply. I think I need to add another folder to a photo hosting site then post them. Is that correct?
