I have a friend who purchased a Shasta Airflyte without a title. The VIN number she gave me is 12854. I asked her to double check for a letter preceding the number. I also told her to look for the little green tag with manufacturing location. The trailer has push out windows and it appears that the cabinet corners are round. Maybe 59? That's all I have on it tonight.

If the prefix letter is C, then it is a 1959 Airflyte....born in Van Nuys, California. HOWEVER, there should be either B4 or B5 following the vin#.
Please let me know what she finds, so I can update my database.
Thanks.

I won't have that information until next week. She decided it was to much work for her and offered it to me. I just could not resist and told her I would take it, and will pick it up next week. I will let you know what the prefix and suffix is after I get it home.

I had an opportunity to go pick up the trailer today. Cleaned the paint off the frame and here is what I found: the full vin# is C12854 B5. So it is in fact a 59. I am a little confused since the width of the closet/ice box cabinet is narrower then my other 59 Airflyte.

Hi Ross, now I am confused. I just went out and double checked the vin# on my other Airflyte and it is C12842 B5 as stated earlier however the little green plate by the door says it was manufactured in Goshen, Ind. So was it really or was it made in Van Nuys.

The vin# on your Airflyte is what I really go by and it was manufactured in Van Nuys, California. A previous owner may have found or purchased the green tag and attached it where the original tag was supposed to be.
There were 3 Shasta plants in California, as far as I know. Van Nuys was the first plant (1952), Northridge (either 1961 or 1962) and Simi (either 1963 or 1964). The vin#'s will start with the letters C, CA, D, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS or HT. Who knows, there could be others out there. Only time will tell and with the help from other Shasta owners.
Hope this helps.
