I'm reinstalling the breaker box in my trailer have have a quick question. Previously the trailer had a big 8 gauge ground wire attached to the side of the box running to the trailer frame. I noticed however that the neutral / ground bus bar inside the box is insulated from the actual box. Should the frame ground wire connect to the neutral / ground bar or the the box. I would think that it should connect to the neutral / ground bar so the entire trailer is grounded when connected to shore power.

I am posting this from one of our electrical gurus:
Note: In a travel trailer the Common bar and Grounds should ALWAYS be isolated. That means white wires and copper wires are in separate bars and the white bar is insulated from the box ground. (usually mounted in plastic) Grounding the common bar causes trouble in a trailer...

So your ground bar in your box should go to the trailer frame, using a #10 for 15 amps and #8 for 30amps. Neutral in your box should not go to a ground. And you should have seperate bars for each, ground and neutral. Roger

Well said, Roger. The neutral and ground bars are ALWAYS isolated in a trailer.

Thank you very much, that was exactly the answer I needed. I finished up the electrical last night using separate bars.
