Went camping at Maumee Bay last weekend sporting new checkerboard flooring. A couple stopped by to see "Stu" (the Compact). I told them the old floor was dark wood laminate that looked really stupid. They were there with their 78 Fan which they had recently redone. I stopped by the next day to see their Fan and what kind of flooring do you suppose they had put down? Dark wood laminate!

Sounds like something I would do. One time I was bidding on a kitchen remodel project with a couple that knew our family. I made a disparaging remark about the fellow our daughter was dating at the time who was noticeably shorter than she was. The instant the words left my mouth I knew I screwed up. The look on the wife's face told me all I needed to know as she too was taller than her husband. Didn't get that job.

IF you spoke the truth they claim the truth never hurt anybody. Anyway they probably walked away just thinking you were stupid, so it didn't hurt their feelings anyway. Also after seeing your floor maybe they agreed as yours looks good.

That's OK, the paneling was different, right?? At least I hope so... I was kind of taken back by their restoration job. There was original wood panelling, painted original paneling and new natural wood beadboard. They said they had replaced some rotted wood in the framing and did it from the inside...did not remove the skin.

Yes, they really liked the checkerboard floor and were talking about redoing their floor in checkerboard. Very nice people. I referred them to this site so they can get more information on vintage trailers.

Many folks believe that gutting a trailer is the way to fix it. We've learned that's not so. The "inside" repairs rarely last for long, and then there's less to work with...
Hopefully, the word will get out on proper vintage trailer repairs! And VTT, of course.

shastajeff...not to worry... EVERYONE knows that '78 Fans are the exception to the checkered floors being way better than laminate wood floors rule...it's a '78 Fan thing.
