Yeah, they have no problem at all with opening a cooler. Smart little rascals they are. Had they warned us at check in I would have left the cooler in the truck or camper. Found an obscure sign at the bathhouse on the 3rd day. Guy at the little gift shop wasn't surprised when I mentioned it while buying ice. Took a stroll into the woods behind our site. Bush whacking if you will. Just littered with torn up meat packages, bacon, foil etc etc. We did learn they don't like spicy. We had precooked some ground beef with jalapeños. They tore the 2 bags open and ruined it but didn't take them or eat much. They took off with our grilled steak and onions we had for phillies. We love Anastasia and yes the raccoon's are bad, at times. We always ask, at check in, what critters do we need to look out for. That being said, if a cooler is going to be left outside, ratchet strap the lid tight, every time after opening. Raccoon's don't just come out at night........ We use to have problem with squirrels at Myrtle Beach State Park, South Carolina. They aren't afraid to eat on the table, while you are eating! After all, when we are camping, we are in tha critters territory!
