I've been searching around to see if I really had to drive into Boston to get my 1/8in birch. I found two closer to me in Rhode Island but they're pricey. I can't vouch for their quality, but thought I'd post the info for someone else in the area.
Atlantic Plywood Corporation Rumford, RI 401-434-2422 $48/sheet
Dwyer Hardwoods Narragansett, RI 401-284-2305 $67.40/sheet (they don't have it in stock but could get it in in 1-2 days) I thought y'all might be interested in this quote from their website: "Recently, grossly inferior Chinese sheet goods have flooded the market. We maintain, however, that you get what you pay for: sheets that warp, have core overlap, are layed up wet, and are bonded with toxic glues. All of our sheets are produced under optimal conditions, with formaldehyde-free glue."

Now all of a sudden because the Chinese are involved we have to pay over $60 per sheet for quality paneling? What happened? Did the other manufacturers suddenly go out of business? It's just another lie from corporate America in my opinion. And why stop there? Why not make it $100 per sheet. Maybe $200 per sheet...

Hood Distribution Knightdale Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610 (919) 772-7550
They will order it made but only if you take 20 sheets or more. Sight-unseen, no picking and choosing.
I ordered from them because there was no real second option in NC. 14 sheets of their A grade G1 birch was perfect. 3 were usable but not perfect. 2 are good for pieces only because of knots.

I think it was $43 a piece. A little over $900 total with tax.
Ouch!

You can get imported for $23 a piece but vikx and mobiltec have both had huge problems with it.

Don't know cost on the 1/8" birch but they definitely have it. As well as what looked like walnut and ash.

If so don't buy it and tell them why you won't buy it. The veneer delaminates at the seams AFTER you apply shellac. And there is no repair for it. Here are some photos... I make mistakes so you don't have to.... I'd listen to this man. This is the same label and brand name, Taraca Pacific, that was on the plywood I first bought to build my trailer floor. After becoming worried about it's water resistance, I tried soaking it which didn't seem to cause any problems. I then tapped it lightly on the floor and the wood split apart and I then proceeded to tear the layers apart with my bare hands. Whatever this company is using for glue on this plywood is not bonding well, and the wood they use on the inner layers is like balsa.

Unfortunately, the sales people don't know where the birch comes from other than it's imported. As a rule, when they say $20 a sheet, it's probably imported. Domestic seems to cost double...if you can find it. In my home country of Ireland we have a saying: When ten people tell you you're drunk, you better sit down. Vintage camper translation: When Mobiltec and vikx tell you to avoid imported birch (China especially), just do it.

What ever the Chineese are using it is not glue I can tell you that. Never before had I seen plywood I can delaminate with my bare hands. Extremely thankful I figured this out before using any of it in my trailer project.
