I thought I'd share this in case it is helpful to someone else:
My step-dad is moving my trailer 3-1/2 hours from his house to mine. The trailer has sat in a cow field for the last 20 years and has no current registration or tags. He was able to go to the local tax office and purchase temporary tags for $5. I think they are good for approximately 1 month and he didn't have to show any proof of insurance. He said it was a really easy process.
Hope this helps someone!

Same thing in CA. You can get a one trip permit good for going from point a to point b. I think they give you 20 days or something. So you can make a vacation out of it too. They vary in price depending on where you get them. I've seen them as cheap as $10 and as expensive as $25.

Yes Ohio calls it a 30 day temp tag all you need is a receipt.

Maine is like Ca., it's a one-trip deal, I think it was $12.

Actually TX has 2 choices. A one trip permit and a 30 day permit. the one trip you have to specific about your route and if you go off that route and get caught you get fined. I think the longer one is 15.00, haven't had to get one yet but that is what they were a couple years ago.

It said "one trip permit" but also had an expiration date. I guess in case you got your permit in advance?

I buy mine blank and fill them in just before I leave. That's how it's done here in CA. If you are pulled over you need to be able to produce it already filled out and dated.
