I was wondering how to measure my exterior skin. Have seen members reference a "6 inch run" for the size and spacing of the breaks in the aluminum, what point do you measure from and to? Also I was wondering if anyone has any experience buying or custom ordering this textured aluminum? If so what is the industry term for that type of finish? I have several sections of both kinds of skin that need replacing and any info would be much appreciated.

You have a Mesa/Valley brake pattern, there are several variations. Go to Hemet Valley RV, they have a good site with diagrams of the different patterns.
There's hundred's of different embossed metal patterns, materials, finishes. Go to your local metal store, like Industrial Metal Supply for a sample of patterns. Buy locally whenever possible to save freight. The harder part might be finding it in a size you need for an RV. Hemet Valley RV has a nice polished "pebble like" aluminum that I use for rock guards. It's clear coated and has held up well to the weather.

You might also call Interstate RV Metals (Milwaukee, Oregon). The last time I talked to them, they were trying mill finish aluminum (no coating) and custom designs. Not sure if that includes the little diamond embossing.
It's available but sometimes a person has to buy 10 4 x 8 sheets.. too much for one little trailer. LOL.
A 6" run would be a repeat pattern every 6 inches. Some trailers are 2 or 4 also.

I would love to have a wide range parts supplier like this, within a 100 mile radius of me for "will call" pick up. A local source is important because of high shipping cost, and shipping damage on large bulk items. Besides sometimes you just need to do some "touchy feely", before you buy.
It's funny that 90% of the 1950's canned hams were built in Gardena, then later in El Monte, CA. These locations are less than an hour from me, but all the suppliers, and the "real" RV stores, and almost all of the RV dealerships are all gone today.
