I am looking to refinish my front rock-guard this spring. I will put a cardinal logo on it, but want to know how to refinish the Fiberglass - like plastic. Will I need to use fine sand paper and then repaint or can I just put a decal on it and be okay? Any information would be appreciated!

I don't have any professional advice for you, someone here will. I can tell you that I saw primer for fiberglass in the spray paint section at Lowe's. I would probably prime and paint. There may be a better, more professional solution.

Thanks SuzieQ! I will probably put on a coat of fiberglass resin and call it good. I can stick my decal on after I do that, I think.

That sounds like an excellent plan to me, especially if you're good at fiberglass.

Hello Pryor, Well, I had to address the same issue a year or two ago. My fiberglass was in decent shape in spite of the years and it's fairly flimsy frame. I took it off and disassembled it first. I polished up the trim and hardware and tried to fix the "thumb screw" lock on the telescoping bracket but it was too far gone. I just established a desired height and fixed a pin rig on it. On the fiber glass? It got a good wash down with hot soapy water and I scratched it up just a little with some scotch bright. I shot 3 medium coat of rustoleum enamel and it is still holding up at year two. I did take the opportunity to stiffen up the frame a bit. All the screws were replaced with stainless ones and I added two vertical aluminum bars left and right of center. I added a new "bumper stopper" at the bottom center as well, but had to trim on a it a little to make a good fit. I was sure to look for cracks or chips on the panels leading edges. It did'nt have any so I was spared having to lay any fiberglass. Good luck..

I felt confident that this green was going to hold well and it has.. No cracks or chips as of yet..
