I am a new member, but my husband and I have already completed our camper rebuild. We were looking for a Scotty and couldn't find one for sale. What we did find was a Shasta Compact. I convinced him to get it and we started on it in August of 2009. It was in much worse shape than even I thought it was, so we ended up taking it down to the frame and rebuilding it. It took us 5 years to finish, working nights and weekends. I must say that it was a great lesson in patience! We took it on our first trip last September. Over 500 miles away and 9 days. She did great! The Shasta Compact is perfect for a couple. We built it back almost exactly like it was except he reconfigured the cabinets and tweaked the bed system. Oh, and put a toilet in the closet. I wanted to just patch her up and go but on hindsight, this is better for two older folks,LOL! I found this forum last night. It looks like there is lots of info for anyone working on one of these old girls.

Welcome! One of our campers is a 1962 Shasta Compact. I drove 2000 miles to pick her up. Like Vikx once said, vintage campers are like potato chips, you can't have just one.

Hamlet (?59 Compact?) and his people welcome you! Hamlet was also a total wreck - took us about a year and a half to restore. We can safely speak for pretty much everyone else here and say, "PICTURES PLEASE!"

Thanks for the welcome! I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do it. I would love another Shasta, but I would rather camp in the one I have. I think I enjoy camping in her better than I liked fixing her up! I do like learning about all the different kinds of campers. They look so much better than the 'boxes' they make now.
