Hey all, Think I found the best made part of my 62 Shasta Compact - the door ! Took it off to look into replacing part of the wooden frame as appeared to be cracked on the handle side and bowed out when closed. Anyway got it off without much problem and looked to remove the trim pieces that are nailed into the top, bottom and sides that secure the birch and door skin. Just my luck, Shasta used nails with spiral shanks and even after 50+ years, they are in and in good shape and not coming out easily. Most have an almost flat/flush head so difficult to get out. Does anyone know if the aluminum trim pieces are available ? Trying to get them off without damaging but just in case. Happy New Year, Mike

Mike, save your trim. I just carefully pried the nails up enough to get a grip and pull them out. You might have to slide something under the trim to carefully pry them up a little. You'll be surprised at how well the trim will go back on. I have a small pry bar tool that kind of looks like Mobiltec's cat's paw but it has a hole in it that fits around the nail head for leverage.

Thanks SusieQ- did just that. Got it off, basically undamaged and will put back on after I replace some of the wood framework of the door. Do need to pick up a tool like Larry uses !

Quick update - now have a rebuilt Shasta door ! Used a treated 1 x 4 for the main frame rail that has the hole cut in it for the lockset. That caused the problem before with a big hole on a simple 1 x 2. Fits perfect, birch sanded and revarnished and looks great !
